It is not surprising that the 16V runs hot in traffic, given that the rad is much smaller than on the 8V because of the lack of space meaning it is mounted more forward in the car. I have never had mine go into the red when the fans have worked. Potential overheat problem is only when crawling. If y...

The gearbox is standard, apart from the 5th gear cog set and the bearing.

These come from a BX turbo D gearbox. Bearing must be machined to fit.

I do not know if the Xantia cogs are suitable.

Best recorded MPG on my BX so far is 43mpg, motorway miles but still passing some other traffic.

Good observation there Doc. Jezzie is right, Turbo D cog set. Jonsgot, the car is much quieter in top gear, and fuel economy is better. Yes, there is a bit less pick up in 5th, but I use 4th to accelerate anyway. Top speed is almost certainly a bit higher, but I have not had the chance to find out y...

you probably know this, but don't get ANY of the burnt rubber or plastic on your skin!

Burnt out vehicles are dangerous due to the residue of dangerous chemicals, which can result in serious injury and amputations.

Wear good gloves and long sleeves when you remove parts.

good luck!

Fuel economy on a BX16V is not so bad on a run (which the BXagon is)
Mine does over 40mpg when driven fairly sensibly.

With fuel cost shared between the 2 drivers, and sharing a hotel room, the extra cost will be tolerable.

I Hope you are right Rob.

But this country is getting more and more safety obsessed, and the government are seeking ways of raising money all the time.

Incidently, the biggest cause of accidents by far is driver misattention.
But they have not invented a camera for that.

I saw a BX16V fitted with solid state ignition- I think it belonged to Dan Bs cousin? He said if was off an xm IIRC, and I would like to mod mine in this way to be rid of the rotor arm etc. I wish I could loose the HT leads completely, and use pencil coils like my 406 has. That would stop the HT arc...

UK to get 50mph national speed limit next year-petition

It is now planned to make all 60mph limits into 50 limits, and enforce the limit strictly with numerous average speed cameras. This is to start NEXT year! If you do not want to drive under such blanket limitations, not based on actual road situations, please add your name to the petition. This rule ...

yes, I did a paragraph or two when I did my sun roof drains, but I was quite enthusiastic and removed the headlining to do so. (I think it got posted on Vanny's site or this one.) it certainly is the best cure, as you can see everything is clear of obstructions, but it takes a few hours and is trick...
