Just to add my two penoths worth, there isn't really any reason for not sticking with standard with a better coil and driver, any modded system is more xpensive used is greater than a dizzy cap occasionally! The coil pack in cover arrangement used on the later 16v 406/ xantia etc is rubish and expen...

most effective tool for these is an air die grinder or cut-off tool but as you prob dont have these either its just a case of brute force, chisels and straightforward shearing the bugggers in the opposite dirrection! miole grip the top shaft and blast the air gun on the nut...... Its often easier to...

I agree that you need to make a road trip to compare with someones which does work! otherwise you could just be chasing false leads for ages! As for the other problems, I have some recent recon arms if that helps and they're a quick enough swap. Drop link ball joints all do that! either buy new whic...

GSF do the Bougicord leads which are essentially the standard ones. Found out what was wrong with mine though! to get the leads under the cover on top of engine, lead 4 is bent rather sharply, my fault, take it off and it appears to conduct, back on and it isn't! New set fitted, no silly cover and i...

The leads thing is very common here not just on BX's! I think it has more to do with the british tendancy to go for minimum cost servicing by 17 year old apprentices!!! Just swap plugs, and oil! nobody ever takes leads off and test, cleans them or removes Dizzy caps any more, so all that crud just b...

Well if 18 months is life for a pair, then I'd rather not try another! tho in fairness the amp prob wasn't faulty this time, the coil will have fried it! previous one was tho'.... Intermotor coil on other car was its only fault too..... Interestingly, last one from GSF was Automotor, last week where...

Adrians right about not messing with retracteables but I think that the ones from a Xantia are at the same angle and would neatly solve the problem, also any misalignment in angle would make them more prone to lock on would it not? rather than less likely? in which case better anchored not less?

Had similar, they generally only twist under load if the rod is bent, which happens when fast fit clutch changers lever them off in the middle! never actually adjusted one just put them back as they come off - neat trick to crimp them for extra life tho :)

And on the same line, coils are a pain - the intermotor ones last less than a year! check resistance approx 1 ohm on primary and K ohms on secondary, ammusingly they will still run whilst showing M ohms on secondary but it kills the ign amp!! again intermotor ones are Sh*t GSF currently only seem to...
