According to an engineer/Cit enthusiast/205 cannibal (but a fairly genuine French car enthusiast) who also mods and races them over here, if a gasket is found on one of these engines, in his opinion, it has been worked on by someone who isn't familiar with the workings of these engines. Gasket sets ...

Whilst he's got access to it, get him to check that plastic manifold that bolts on the outside of the engine way out the back. It has one port blanked off and seems prone to both getting brittle and also getting oil contamination on it which perishes the blank off in particular, causing it to swell ...

Take it for what it's worth, but if you've got limited ability and even less experience in rebuilding engines, the last thing I'd be doing is any kind of modifications when you do it. That is asking for trouble. These engines aren't all that complicated, but whatever you do has to be done exactly; n...

GSF send a lot of stuff out here to Oz so I couldn't see Canada being too much of a hassle.

Well as a bit of a guide from this side of the pond, I went to an annual French car day in Brisbane last weekend (wished I'd have stayed at home, but that's another story) at the University of Queensland campus, where they get a lot of area to basically display as many cars as they wish. Ther...

....and a sheared headbolt!!

Been redoing a DKZ engine out of a TZi and in the process of stripping down, had the ultimate nightmare happen; a headbolt sheared off. Nothing all that unusual you might say, heard of it before, but this was one with a bit of a difference; this one sheared off inside the block down at the thread wi...

Every Cit I've ever had was wired via the switch but I have heard of a couple being done as I said. I have been walking past the occasional Pug or riceburner when all of a sudden the fans have turned on....frightens the crap out of you if you're not expecting it. That's the advantage IMO of having t...

I've often thought of modifying the power supply to the fans so they will continue to work after the ignition is turned off. When you think about it, between hot alloy engines, insulation underbonnet and plastic bonnet coupled to the fact that the thermofan switch being located at a low level, it's ...

I'd be holding my breath in a big way starting a car after 8 years with a cambelt that hasn't turned in that time!
Good to hear of another being brought back to life.

Mine split due to the specialist the previous owner used to use carrying on like he had a dose of the DTs everytime he tried to fill the oil so it went gooey. I cut the bad piece out and fitted a couple of black plastic fittings designed to take the heat. I managed to get a new hose to replace it, b...

Gee they look good in red. When I bought mine 7 years ago, the husband of the woman I bought it off had a red one too which he offered me at a reasonable price. I decided 2 were better than one, but was told it had leaky liner seals and was in getting worked on after which, the cost of the repairs (...

You should find it in here:

I think it's just for the drain back of oil from the head to the crankcase IIRC.

I've noticed over the years how you guys over there seem to have all these coil problems we rarely see over here. I have had a bee in the bonnet ever since I bought mine and it misfire and stutter at low cruising speeds and I discovered a conductive coating over the coil due to its location and when...

Personally I think everybodys thoughts are correct to a point but unless you're a well credentialled hydraulics engineer like we had for a while on Andyspares a few years back from Slovenia who blew us all away with his knowledge, you'll never come up with a one answer solution; they all seem to pla...
