someone was lying to you tim

phase 1 and early phase 2 had the same ECU. later phase 2 had a different ECU but same power rating.

the only 16vs with less power are the ones with the very late phase 2s that came with a Cat.

i don't know about other peoples BXs, but on mine a good way to tell whether or not the ABS circuit was on or not (even if the light wasn't working) was this: 1. switch on ignition (but don't start engine) 2. listen 3. roughly the same time that the oil level needle wakes up (about a second after tu...

On the Citroen BX 16v, if the ABS light on = fault in the ABS system. For safety reasons the entire system is then disabled until the fault is rectified - because ABS going haywire is potentially worse than no ABS at all! If that's not true then I'll gladly down a pint of LHM. If your ABS light is o...

If it was a high pressure leak then car would most certainly not have driven fine.

It looks like a hefty return pipe leak. Remember the rear brakes are linked to the rear suspension so there's always a certain amount of flow at the back, even on the return lines.

hi rossco i already think that my throttle position sensor is fine - because the acc blipping trick you mention (in which i'm well versed...!) is ineffective - hence my saying in the post that the TPS is working ok  so it must be something else... jayw: don't worry i *think* you're perfectly n...

bizarre high revs at start-up

afternoon to my bx homies. judging by recent posts, it's AFM trouble time for many of us! recently upon starting up i've been alarmed to be subjected to the car immediately racing up to 3000 rpm at idle, and refusing to come down. - the throttle position switch is clicking fine and the accelerator c...

tim what's your reasoning behind 'no oil pressure' - the gauge in the pic? don't be so naive, those things never work  !!

one other thing i noticed from my car:

the oil temp sensor wire (which is green i think) should run through a black plastic shroud round the back of the engine to protect it from getting worn away by the driveshaft.

i say *should*: my plastic shroud thing has pretty much worn away now.

if your engine's in good nick go for 5 or 10 w / 40. if it's burning a bit of oil due to the common valve stem seals being shot then go 15 or 20w / 50 - anything thinner and you'll be driving round in clouds of blue smoke!

IIRC it goes into a multi connector (can't remember how many soz!) shared with, among other things, the oil level sensor wiring (which is two wires). there's a circuit diagram in haynes which amazingly for haynes is actually quite useful!
