Frechracing blue is correct. Many years ago, when I neeeded an exhaust for my MK3 Cavalier, the main dealer gave me a choice between the OEM part and an alternative part for about half the price. When I needed another exhaust part a year later, they only sold the cheaper version. This helps to expla...

Hi Dan, Remember that it is far easier for a plug to spark when not under compression in the cylinder, so don't assume that you are getting the full HT voltage just because you see a spark. Clean out the distributor cap and arm with WD40, and check the arm is turning round! (cam belt) Inspect all th...

1st check the small wire connection to the top of the solonoid, it is only a crimp termnal and it was intermittant on mine. I soldered directly to it and it was reliable again. As suggested by Tim, an extra relay really does work well. The wiring to the solonoid goes via the keyswitch, and avoiding ...

If you had air con, you would already have 2 fans. to wire in 2nd fan: wire the new fan in parallel with existing fan. wire a second low speed dropper resistor in parallel with the existing resistor. job done. both fans now spin at the correct low speed when engine is hot, and both spin at high spee...

The sensors are the same on the pug 405, except that there is a different connector on the end of the lead. That is no problem , as you can splice the cable. The cable is coaxial but this is not a high frequency RF signal so just make a good connection and wrap the joint in self amalgamating tape et...

Valve stem oil seals appear to last much longer in the 16V engines, I don't know why. Possibly better oil cooling? When my valve stem seals went hard, in an 8V GTI, the exhaust smoke was normal until the car had warmed up, then lots of bluey smoke. Oil consumption was noticably high. Fitted 20w40 an...

This whole new tax thing really exposes the fact that the government don't care about the environment, only raising taxes. There is no 'harm' owning a thirsty car, only when it is driven does it use fuel. The tax on petrol is already sky high, and this is pay as you drive. A large car at 30 miles a ...

Mines OK, needs a driveshaft gaiter for an MOT which has just expired, but is not taxed or insured so is living in the garage at the moment. It was my daily drive until last April. With three cars in the family and only 2 drivers, it does not make sense to keep all on the road all the same time. I w...
