Only point I was trying to make ref the Astra GTEs is in response to Mark's post about the relative values of BX16V and Astra GTE back when they were only a few years old - that now it's highly unlikely you'll find many of either around, simply because for one reason or another they've fallen foul t...

G/H reg is the changover point - early p2 cars had identical management to late p1. Does of course depend on how long the car sat around before registration.....

I bet there's even less Astra GTEs of a similar age still around than there are BX 16Vs! Given their propensity for breaking out in chronic rust if living outdoors, plus the love of kit car builders/manufacturers for the 'red top' 2.0 16V motor, which must outstrip the 205 brigade for taking motors ...

Tim

Get your head checked for cracks before bothering to rebuild - with old/no coolant in them the alloy tends to degrade over time. It's what did for our p1 16V head so ended up buying a complete re-furbed head instead as it had head gasket failure symptoms.

Yep, agreed Gary - could Bertie be made road legal again, or too much hassle to bother?!

I suspect a fair few will be SORNed for half the year and licensed the other half (I know ours is!) so not necessarily a fair reflection, but you're right there's probably a core of 30-40 SORNed cars that are either scrap, or the paperwork just hasn't been done to declare the fact they've been broke...

I HAVE NUMBERS!! Had an e-mail from a contact with records by the above 2 model codes with details of those licensed and SORNed at the end of each quarter - the details on licensed goes back to q4 of 1994, the SORNed goes back to its introduction (IIRC) in q4 2007. It would appear that the 'BX 16V' ...

OK, I've done some initial digging on this, based on data I hold. There are 2 'model codes' that relate to the 16V - #235 relates to the 'BX GTI 16V', #384 relates to 'BX 16V' These codes are issued in sequence to car manufacturers to identify a new trim level, so you get a few new BX trims, then so...
