probably an issue with the air gap somewhere - it can cope with an increased air gap at lower speeds, but if the signal is weak-ish then at high speed it won't see the gaps in the teeth.

I'd be tempted to take a pair of standard 16V seat frames and try fitting the leather covers so you can keep the adjustable lumbar for both front seats - bet the left/right can be sorted easily. Depends on the level of damage - a 35 quid job will almost certainly be cosmetic only, and won't deal with corrosion or missing chunks from the rim other than dressing it.

If it needs a full chemical clean etc it will go up a fair bit.

If you're anywhere near Crawley, there's a place on Manor Royal called Wicked Wheels - they charge £55+VAT per wheel, so not cheap.
