Vanny wrote ... Just to add some more confusion, i came across something very strange today. A 161 ECU in a Citroen BX 16v Ph2. There is no guarantee that the car started life with this ECU, however the car is a late K-reg, with a CAT, i couldn't see a knock sensor, and the ecu plugs into some very ...

Viktor, sorry to diverge on your thread. Vanny – as your into mapping?? ( Is that contagious ) Is it possible to remap a 114 ECU to function on 100 octane. From the point of improving the performance further. Would there be any benefit? Currently running std. ECU on that type of fuel. No cat or dog/...

Rossco, the 354 could have been quite correct for a 16v – late models. Viewing the layout of 354, when compared to Viktor’s 88 EM components. I feel the loom would require quite a few alterations to adapt to the OE engine set-up. I’m sure ??? his car has had a mid life change, not quite sure why. Bu...

Viktor, after some searching through my pile of papers and Bosch technical. I don’t think a 354 ECU is going to work with your 88 valver without some modification to the wiring. The only 3 row, M 1.3 ECU’s I could find that would possibly tie-up with BX 16v engine management components, is the 158, ...

This is getting slightly confusing .com .com, with Viktor’s ECU numbers, engine set-up, age and P1/P2. The numbers just don’t tie-up with a valver in my opinion. Correct me if I’m wrong, I have never seen a P1/P2 ??, @ 88, with a 3 row ECU plug and a CAT as OE. Differing variants may have been avail...

A 140, I believe, was available from mid 90, with a cat. And no air con?? Found with a completely std engine set-up and 119. The power band about 3800 – 4500 was more responsive. Digs in, with 3rd and 4th gear. Top end appeared about 200rpm more, but very little difference in power at that level. Ma...

A few points you may like test before replacing the ECU. With the TDC/CAS sensor. Remove the plug from the unit. Position the plug body with the two tags uppermost. Check the resistance between the centre and right pins. Yellow and black wires ( possibly). Should be in the region of 500-650Ω. Crank ...

Sounds as if you’ve got a conflict between the ECU and the TPS as Kitch mentioned. Also the Throttle stop screw could be out of adjustment, if the rpm is oscillating -up to 1500. With 1988 valver. I would have thought non CAT. Motronic ECU – 119, with a CAS. 043. A 0.261.200.140 ECU should work – Mo...

MoRtYMer, Petwar You seem to be experiencing the exact same problem as I had. Bl- -dy frustrating, especially after changing and checking all the components. I think, possibly??, this fault is due to a charge build-up in the cooling system or reduced conductivity of the water, interfering with the ...

I never realised this low level water light at high revs was a common problem on 16v’s. Initially, I thought the header tank level sensor, connected to the relay control box attached to the rad, was interconnected with the oil level probe circuits??? There must be a detectable fault somewhere in the...

On one particular 16 valver. had been plagued trying to rectify a very similar problem with the low level water light constantly coming on above 3500-4500rpm. Having the correct water level in the header tank, complete electrical systems tested, changed all related components, system bleed 5-6 times...

Vanny, I,m inclined to agree with you with ageing fan resistors possibly failing due to the accumulation of corrosion building up on the contacts. The OE position is not the best all weather place!! They must have placed it there for cooling the unit?? I’ve modified 16v’s with a twin fan set-up, uti...
