Infact (not including modern 'electronic' diesels) if you remove the stop solenoid and bump start them they will run quite literally for ever, they don't actually require a power source to work (usefull if your ever stuck in the desert with a flat battery and a full fuel tank!) Have you ever tried ...

For normal wheel removal I use the standard jack, undoing the wheelnuts a few turns before taking the wheel off the ground.

For semi permanent lifting and access I have the trolley jack and a large block of wood with a groove cut into it that lines up with the seam under the car.

A pity, my trusty steed has to go to make way for a van this month, otherwise it would be worthy of an entry in the calendar

From first hand experience WD40 everything the night before A long (really long - 15") cheapo philips screwdriver from the local autoshop, cut the important bit off, and maybe hacksaw the handle off where the shaft ends in the moulding. Use this as a drift and tap the pins in the direction of t...

Any update Rossco ?

I have just acquired a Vauxhall Combo 1.7 diesel which should have similar components. If you need me to test anything I will send you a report.

a std 16v book weight is 1070kg, by stripping out everything you would prolly be looking at saving around 100kg - 150kg may be?? depends on how serious the stripping out your going?? seats and carpet out your prolly looking around 40kg? I think you could go much further than 150kgs by dumping the s...

CH as I understand it the steering circuit isn't a closed loop , but is constantly being refreshed with fluid from the reservoir so it shouldn't accumulate stale fluid as the braking circuit does. Never said it was, but if the fluid has been doing the rounds for years, then the oxidation and breaku...

I would first drain the whole of the system into a large pan and let it settle overnight, then pour off the top into a clean bottle, stopping when the remains start changing from a pure green colour. Pour the cleaner stuff into the tank and top up, and perform aerobatics a few times to get it into t...

A good pointer would be to know where the leak appeared to be coming from.

Was the spot under the rear or the front of the car, left right or central ?
And did it leak only when you had stopped ?

I would suggest taking off the top of the fuel filter (near the bulkhead behind the engine ?), and run a small bottle of diesel straight into pump/injectors as a test. If the car continues to run after restarting then you have a leak somewhere in the main fuel line which is sucking in air, rather th...
