Wonder what reserve thay have put on it,
car would benefit a good clean to bring the paint up (rear spoiler beyond help but could be 'hidden' quite easily :wink: but looks a good one!

Not sure I'd say it looks a good un TBH.
I suspect the reserve will be around the £400 mark, which is too much for what it is IMHO.

Those wheels are horrid, although if the engine works as it should it could replace my spare I've just had nicked.

It's got donor stamped all over it TBH.

doc, spoox still offer the engine alone for £6560 mate do why is a prospective £400 too much for a complete car?

I assume Spoox offer recon engines?
I cant imagine anyone would pay over £6k for a used Mi lump!

A full rebuild on an Mi costs about £4K to do properly, so £400 for a used engine that will almost certainly want a rebuild (well, I wouldn't fit a used engine in my car without a nut and bolt rebuild anyway) is about right, if a little steep. After all, if the guys didn't want Mi's for 205's and what have you, they'd be worthless wouldn't they!

If I wanted a complete car to use then you'd still have to budget in all the things that will almost certainly need doing, like brakes, HP pipes, taking care of rust, and it will have plenty, etc etc, then there's the shite paint on it that I couldn't live with, so a respray, even if I did it myself thats about £300 in consumables and paint etc..

So, £400 for what is effectively a sad looking well used car is a bit steep IMHO.

sorry doc,. my fingers added a number in! it should have read £650.
afaik the engones they offer are effectively straight out the car and put into storage, not rebuilt,
so consider a place like that will nbe thinking snap it up for 400, engine out, box and loom, split it and were in profit straight away the rest fo the car can go to the crusher!

come on, were trying to keep the value's of the cars up not knock them down! i understand what your saying though and yes ideally we'd all like to buy as cheap as possible but in an effort to keep the value's up then if we have to pay a little extra, then so be it! IMO ofcourse!

Spray/powdercoat wheels black/anthracite=WIN.

Car is worth it for engine alone-a dude in trademe over here is selling a semi-rebuilt (really only new rings, but needed alot of headwork) for over $3,000NZD!!!

i got my entire P2 for $2k!Someone with some spare cash and space (hard combo i know,recession and all)should grab it! The only thing better than owning a 16v, is owning TWO 16vs!!!! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

£650 for a used engine that no doubt has no guarentee? And people actually buy them!? :shock:

I hear what you're saying, but lets face it, there's only a small band of people that appreciate what the valver is. To most it's an ugly french thing with weird suspension that garages hate.
It's not ideal, but it's how it is. I dont mind paying alot for a car, god knows what my black one cost to buy was more than it's value given it's goosed engine, rot and sad panels, and it cost a bloody fortune to put right (like £4.5K on the engine alone), but there aint many people that do spend that sort of money on an old car that few people like outside of hardcore BX fans.
And most BX fans seem to like TD's over anything else...

I do maintain though that for a car that clearly aint been loved much lately £400 is a chunk to shell out (especially in the current climate) given that anyone wanting to return that to looking nice and driving well will probably have to fork out another £1K at least.

All that said, if I was looking for another project right now I'd probably have bought it and rebuilt it, happily the bus is owning my wallet right now so I cant.
Although if engines are fetching £600 + then that does rather back up my theory as to where my engine went!
I'll just have to not blow mine up anytime soon!

Spoox are just down the road from me.

I have sold them several engines and spares over the years and he's given me £350 to £400 for complete 205 packages, ie engines with looms and gearboxes etc.

Sells them on for £650plus as seen, more if you want cambelt changing etc. There's a lot of 205 owners out there wanting 16v engine upgrades that can't undertake the work themselves.

It is an age old argument but as said the sad fact is that the BX 16v is not much loved and its monetary value is only due to its engine.
Of course there are a few outstanding examples which may fetch decent moeny IF an eager buyer is found at the right time but I would like to think these examples are in the hands of people who would never let them go anyway :D

You're spot on there. The best examples have been in enthusiasts hands for some time now I would say. Look at the hard core section of membership of this site (and the bxclub) where cars were bought a long time ago with no intention of selling them on.

I still believe that 1 example a year will turn up on the open market as and when elderly owners part with them. Adrian's, my last Phase1 for example and I believe Jay bought a 40k mile example last year?

It's just depressing that cars like this one will end up as a donor and scrapped. Those of us with a passion for these cars are generally Jo Average's and don't have bottomless wallets and garages to buy them up and store them away.

When I win the EuroLottery this Friday, my buying up spree will commence. Oh, if only :wink:

Sorry have to disagree with that-the P2 alloys are bearable,but generally those alloys date the car terribly.A good set of square faced 15-16-17in alloys really transform those 16vs into a special lookin ride.NOT chromey shiney sh*t mind you, something shadow chrome or anthracite!!!!! My two cents :wink:

:D Luke is so right. I for one will never part with my valver even though ive been offered money time and time again for the engine :evil: . had it 8 years now.

I'd sell mine to the right person, for ALOT of money, but no-one will give me alot of money for it, so it'll stay.
I'd never sell the diesel though, I've had that car forever.
I too have been approached by several people that want the engine in my car, sadly one of them appears to have just nicked the G reg for the engine rather than offer money for it. Ho hum.

All that said, I'm using the valver again at the mo, since it's been parked up for a few weeks, and I thought I'd get it away from the farm before Pugboy (no, I'm not just wildly having a go at Puggers, I have a VERY good idea that it was a Pugger that nicked the G reg, and I'm almost certain I know where that engine will end up) came back for that one aswell, and I'm really enjoying it again.
There's something very special about that car that is stupidly addictive.
