Shame it's got into such a state :? Was a very clean car from what I remember

Kitsch should know more about its general condition as he's the specialist mentioned in the advert that's been working on it.

I suspect a self-spannering person could sort most of it - the seller I don't think has much luck with cheap cars he's bought - pretty sure the one he had before the BX turned out to be rotten as a pear!

I'm sure an enthusiast would be able to sort this out. As we know, BXs have been enthusiasts' cars for at least the past 10 years, as their ubiquitousness on the streets (and hence mainstream mechanics' knowledge of them) and parts availability has diminished. So it's a shame when those without spannering knowledge buy 20+ year old cars and expect them to work flawlessly, find out that obviously they don't, chuck money at them in vain until they give up. Or even worse try bodging bits themselves and making matters worse. These cars then end up scrapped! This seems to have happened a fair bit with valvers lately.

If i had any offroad car parking space I'd buy all valvers like this up immediately just to prevent them disappearing. I'd mothball them (would never strip for parts) until someone came along who could restore them / or I could do it myself. But sadly living in London I don't have this luxury. There won't be many of these unique wonderful cars left soon.

Worse things happen at sea though...

You know there is an element of Why so many when a car has a string of owners all who have it for short periods!
does sound like a l;ot of the issues are or were Quick fixes that never got repaired properly, from what i remember, a lot of money has been thrown at that car!

Yeah, bit of a shame that it's gone that way, but the car never helped itself. It's one of those where you repair something, get it sorted, and then another issue instantly pops up. And I don't mean a little niggle the next week, I mean - car develops misfire, test everything, find the TPS is shot, replace and misfire goes away, throttle cable fails, replace cable, misfire comes back  I know my way around a car well enough to know when you're fighting a losing battle

That's why it's being listed spares or repair, and I'm telling everyone the same thing - it needs to either be used as spares for the remaining cars, or it needs a full overhaul. The bodywork's not great (not sure it was ever 'tidy') and the state of the wiring in it is pretty worrying. There are metal retaining clips missing off half the connectors in the engine bay, and his mate took the dash apart without any tools - that's how well it had been put back together! Add to the fact that it's just crap to drive - drives nothing like a good 16v. It's all nervous and unbalanced.

If someone wants a base to rebuild a 16v, then it's no worse than any other at that money, but if they think they'll just throw a bit of DIY at it, they're in for a bad time. It's been bodged too many times over the years, simple as that.

It's true Alex (owner) doesn't have any spannering knowledge, but why should that prevent him buying a car that he wants to own? He's thrown a fair bit of money at it with me (another reason I agreed selling it was right - he's not getting good VFM!) and he's given it every chance under the sun. If you can't spanner yourself, you know you'll have to pay somebody to do it all the while knowing it'll repay you when you drive it and it puts a smile on your face. This one doesn't put a smile on your face, it's just constant heartache! He's been pretty honest in that advert.

Every cloud though, as while deciding to sell G-VOT was a cert, he had to decide whether to carry on and have another crack at the BX 16v game. In the end he decided to, and I sold him DUG, the Meteor grey ph1 I had. He's loved every minute since and the car is living up to expectations. I get the odd text saying something like "Just been on a hoon in the countryside - I LOVE this car!!" or words to that effect.

Hopefully someone who really knows their way around them will step in, but my worry is that someone will buy it expecting too much. I'd actually be slightly relieved if it got bought for spares by another BXer, as it's been a right old saga trying to keep the thing going. It would draw a line under it, but we'll see.

My p2 used to 'reliably' break down precisely a week after every service - always something different and always unrelated to the service! It just used to like to test your resolve after opening your wallet!

I can't recall when Keith owned the car - 10 years ago, or maybe less? Certainly don't recall it being shabby bodywork-wise when he brought it to a couple of shows, but there's been a pretty decent period in between when stuff can be done to a car, or stuff that was creatively repaired can fail again in more spectacular fashion! You don't tend to poke too deep under the skin when just viewing for the sake of interest rather than with a view to buying anyway.

Be a shame for it to be turned into a pile of bits but if it's as bad as you reckon it may seal its fate.....

One of the guys on BXC got it for spares I believe (he already has two ph2s). Think he pops on here occasionally too.

Glad it's gone to another bx'er, from what ive seen/ heard, to get it decent would be a true labour of love, head to toe strip down kinda job, sad but there is always one or two that suffer 20 years of bodging through lightly tinted rose spectacles,
I know also if it Was worth it, our boy Kitch would have persued it! Glad the owner got. A goodunthojgh!

Well don't forget it was a paying job. Yes it could have been sorted but it would have cost a fortune for me to do it. It's not that it was too tricky, it's that the owner couldn't justify it.
