WAnted BX 16valve with MOT, not a restoration project.

Post by christhelion »

Are there any 16valves for sale?

Not a restoration project and with an MOT. Got money to spend on a car and a search on autotrader looking at bland mundanos etc has brought me back here.

Cheers

A little too late I'm afraid..

I spent the money on a Kawasaki ZX9R.

But now I've got that.. my focus will be on turning my broken (rear subframe mounts - hard to get hold of it seems) bx gti 4x4 into a 16valve track car. Hoping to sell the 4x4 bits to fund it all.

If you'd have come a bit earlier :)

let me get this straight, your gonna ditch the 4x4 system and just have 2wd? That seems a little mental. could be interesting though.

There is a possibility that i know someone who is scrapping a 4x4 (bit of a dog, bought for the front transmission), not sure where he was upto but had bought the car to break. Maybe i could put you in touch?

well, the thing is, vanny,

The rear subframe mounts have gone and they seemed hard to get hold of. It needs a clutch and I really can't be bothered with the hassle of worrying about that transfer box once it's done. I know you said it would be ok with a bit of sealant but still, I'd always be expecting it to break. Then I'd not have fun with my car. I love the way the car handles but it's too slow too.. a golf TDI was a little faster than me. And thats not on... it's got a gti badge. I wanted to do a proper job of a track car with it because the shell is really good. I can't afford to do a proper 4x4 job that can handle more power so it'll have to be ditched.

I think the guy you're talking about is Brian King? I asked him about subframe mounts and he said hold yer horses.. or something similar. I know I'd get a lot of stick from people on bxclub about it but then if you offered to sell them a complete 4x4 no matter what state they'd reply with "I'm not brave enough". So I can't sell it as it is, it's not worth fixing then selling coz it'll cost too much and I'd lose my car so I'm gonna do the best I can with it.

This WILL be an interesting car when its finished, 4x4 or not. All the guys who have moaned about this happening to this car over on other forums  have had their chance to buy it a million times when i had it and also while chris has owned it, as you all know, so they can now keep their mouths shut, its just a car after all and it is still going to be enjoyed...alot 8) which is surely better than letting it sit and rot in the interest of keeping it original?

yeah simran, well said.

In fact, I'm gonna turn it into a wheelbarrow.. that way I can carry round a load of RS Ford parts wherever I want to.

oi, i wasn't complaining!

I'm not opposed to the idea of building a valver track car (well maybe a bit jealous), and if i ever do one, i will probably be starting from a 14tge.

My concern was that you might be scrapping a good 4x4 for the sake of a couple of parts, which if you couldn't locate i might be able to help with. At this rate i can see a BX track day coming up (maybe invite the crazy Dutch and mandic and others?)

Don't worry Vanny, the attack wasn't aimed at you. Just other people I've spoken to.

It'll take me some time to build this car, there's the fact that my wage is almost at capacity :) and I have nowhere to do it unless I can borrow a mates garage. I'm quite excited about it though. I want it to be a proper job though ya see. A rebuilt 16valve in it and no expense spared (within limits of budget  ) so it'll probably take a good few years. I was inspired by a mates Nova that he's spent over £25k on. I won't be spending that, but you get the idea :)

It's quite sad though when I see it and know it's going to be butchered but as it is it's just taking up room and isn't providing the fun that it should. I'm hoping to end up one of probably few people who uses their sportsbike as a runaround and their car as a toy. I wish it could be 4 wheel drive but it'd only break.

Citroen should have made it properly and I wouldn't be in this mess :)

Are 4x4 subframe bushes different to 2wd bushes then?

It would appear so. Mine was up on ramps getting the rears spheres changed and all off a sudden.. the subframe dropped out, or at least the rear end of it. It took the exhaust down with it. At the moment it's lashed up with steel wire and I drove the car home.
The guy at the citroen specialist looked on his computer to find out about the subframe bushes, and it said theyu were different. They used to be £67 each from citroen but they don't make them. I gave him my contact details so he could get back to me if he finds out anywhere else. He said he would. Never heard a word.

I can't get under my car again except for raising it up and I don't have a lot of mounts to get dimensions from. There's more rust than anything else to be honest.

If I get chance I'll have a look at them and see what I see. It's just a bit awkward getting under it. I don't have ramps and it's not insured anymore so I can't take it anywhere.

No problem mate, there's a 4x4 just down the road from my yard, so I'll have a look at that one.
I didn't realise they were different.
That said, if I got one in my sweaty palm I'm fairly sure I could either fabricate one or find a suitable replacement.
