exhaust downpipe

Post by RobC »

anyone got one hanging around? mine's developed a hefty crack where the pipe joins the first little box (is it called the 'resonator' or sommat? i.e. where the cat is in catted cars).

ideally i'll want one of the ones with the fabled split, as the current one has it...

or perhaps someone knows a good welder in the london area?

dont have a pipe but!! replacing the resonater is quite a common thing, well removing rather than replacing, mine has a sectoin of flexi pipe sleving the pipe to a new sectron of 54mm pipe i think it is that runs from where the box was straight back to the intermediate joint, never got roiund to getting it welded up permanently! but has been fine for 5 years or so!!

Thanks for the idea! Doesn't that make it a lot more loud though? My boy racer days are over.

(I suppose it would still be quieter than it is at the momet while it's blowing...)

If the top section is OK, then consider a stainless system from a sound part of the pipe back. That can include a replacement resonator box?

I had a quote recently for a stainless system at £299 fitted.

made very little difference to mine rob,
total cost was under £25 too!
if you can go for the stainless as adrian said or as mike fitted on his old white P1 did then go for it, lifetime system effectively!
being the skinflint i am i went for thew cheap optoin!

I took the front box off the Triton Green 16V and the exhaust tone and volume hardly changed. It is the smallest of the 3 boxes on the car.

It's the cross box that does the most of the silencing.

I've recently bought my old Phase 1 back from my mate (gone from having no Bx's to 2 of the damn things ): when I fitted the Powerflow system 4 years / 5k miles ago, I retained the original downpipe and the stainless system starts where the downpipe levels off after the siamese plate finishes.

The exhaust doesn't have a cross box and now that the baffles in the front and rear box have settled in, it's f*cking loud :!: :D

I can take pictures of the system tomorrow if you want and post up :?:
