tax

Post by Toddman »

It is times like this that I really think the goverbnebt should introduce a classic car.show car tax bracket.
Paying for our car tax by the mile would surely help most of us non daily valver drivers?

Cheers
Luke

My valver sits quietly in my garage until the day i'll find some time to bring it into the shape it belongs to. I just didnt have the friggin time, so i'm drivin a 08' Honda Civic Type S at the mo (well, not the worst thing ;-) .

I really miss it, but apart from the time problem...i moved and dont have the space to do the repairs. :(

But next summer...it'll definitely be on the road again. Maybe even for some UK vacation 8)

So i think, sadly enough, it's getting a little quiet here, or: the hardcore bx 16v fans are still here. Dammit, the cars are so old now! You get a Xsara VTS or Xantia V6 (or C5, if you like) for cheap nowadays.

But hey, i love that car and i dont plan to get rid of it anytime soon!

Our phase 1 has been parked up now for 2 years - not because it needs anything doing but because my Dad can't quite grasp the concept of using a car lightly - it's either racking up 20k in a year or doing 30 miles on and off the drive and up to the MOT station once a year

He killed his Saab 900 T16 convertible by tripling the mileage using it every day all through the winter, then garaged it and did 300 miles in 3 years - the BX is heading the same way.

Apparently the plan is to put it on the road for 6 months of the year each summer, but this year's shaping up to be like last year (blink and you miss it) plus my Mum's now ill so my Dad argues there's no point taxing it as my Mum won't want to be karted about in it without air-con.....

Have the spare subframe from MikeP down in Bristol and hoping to irritate my Dad enough that he gets it shot blasted and powder coated ready to go on the car - it's about the only weak bit on the oily side but hasn't failed an MOT.

Last thing I did to the car was move all the Blaupunkt hi-fi I took out of my phase 2 into the phase 1 - from what I can gather the last time it was used was the day my Dad drove it back to Bristol from our house

Ho hum - one of life's challenges!

hello

mine's parked outside the front in E5 - used regularly for karting band equipment around, it's become a bit of workhorse and the bodywork's kinda grotty these days.

mechanics still super though (touch wood!)

about to attempt to tart it up with some xm leather seats... not sure if i'll be able to pull it off though.

Yes we are Luke.

I just had a look at the list of members, some old names there but not been posting for while. Perhaps they visit less regularly and may add to the thread in the future.

Seems many of us have the cars laid up just now, sometimes happens that way. Good to see some of the "old timers" keep looking in though. As I said, this is a great site and I would hate it to disappear.

I still look in over the weekends but I'm away in the week so it's kinda hard then!
Clearly I dont evan have a Valver now living over here, not evan seen another Citroen here in Canada or the USA let alone a BX :( . We are currently looking for another car after our Buick died on us, but I have to say one of the things I miss most from the UK is my Bx16v.

Mines OK, needs a driveshaft gaiter for an MOT which has just expired,
but is not taxed or insured so is living in the garage at the moment.

It was my daily drive until last April.

With three cars in the family and only 2 drivers, it does not make sense to keep all on the road all the same time.

I will put it on the road, but probably not until next year.

Mine's still running.

Use it as daily transport to work and going out weekends. May need a new head gasket but apart from that it's fine.

Gave Iains 16v a run this am,should I say gave it a blast !My STR was very low on petrol,so I took the 16v,to go get some.
Had a nice run,got her moving some, dont tell Iain but it still goes like the wind. :D
I really want to get mine up and running, save myself a few quid on petrol. The STR isnt too bad on fuel,30MPG on the motorway, but it dont get much use there.Usually around 18 MPG on town work.Or if you feel like moving LESS !!

Danb is on the bike forum i use (bikeradar) and from a pm i had a while ago he didnt mention wether he had got rid of the bx so dont know the status of his!

gave mine a blast over from Fathers to my Mechanics ready for mot in the next few days (told the mech to do it when he can, no rush etc so will be at sometime in the next fortnight!) and i have to say, It felt good! seriously upset a wag in her black 206XSI with its loud exhaust, halfords rear lights and alloys, she had that look of i am the fastest! hahah! sorry love, but it didnt half feel good to open the taps a bit!
anyways, the ol' girl is now in her tempary home tuill its mot'd then it will be back to fathers until i've finished digging out the front! (the way its goign, next years mot loL!)

Still, dropped £15 in to get me over and back etc. and the fuel gauge Barely moved loL! Happy days!

Want to get mine off the road now and into PERMANENT storage as its a real good example too good to be left on the road these days. The way i look at it now is that they should start going up in value and i dont want to use it anymore. maby put it back to standard??. Not doing anymore shows with it now. Got my replacement for it, should be on the road for august.

My valver is MOTed and Insured but sorned due to lack of funds, the list of jobs that need doing are growing, the most needy one is repiping which I will attempt myself soon enough.
