well as the Bx is only my 4th owned car it'll have to be the Pug 309 gti!
Awsome car! suspension had one clic on the torsion bar lowered and 62mm up front, strut braced etc, stiff as old boots! loved it!!
the other 2 cars were both mini's, neither of which had particular performance! :D

i have however driven Hundreds of others through work, anything form fiat 126 to nissan 350z's, most the beemers, merc etc but none of them gave me the same feeling i'd get climbing intot he bx at the end of the day to come home!

something about the bx16v!

OK I didn't own it for long, but a Renault 2.1 Turbo. Bit of a Cosworth killer TBH, but woeful build quality...
Long-term BX-owner (had a Ph.1 and a Ph.2 in the recent past). Currently: GTi 8v, 219k miles (!), XM 2.0CT Exclusive.

I've had 11 Bx 16 valves for various reasons over the years plus:

Chevette HS (with HSR bodykit, should never have sold it :!: )

Carlton GSi 24v x 2, current car is one of these.

performance ?

Post by Toddman »

Oh lordy this will be fun :D

BX 16v I have had 4 and 1 GTi.
VW Scirocco GT
Audi Coupe 2.2 with headwork + cam and scorpion exhaust
Ford Sierra XR41
Lancia Delta HF turbo
Mazda 323 GT by TWR
Talbot Samba S
Ford Fiesta XR2 MK2
Ford Escort XR3 MK3
Ford Orion injection Ghia MK4
MG Metro
MG Maestro
Ford Escort Harrier MK2

Some of the above have dubious credentials as regards to being "performance" LOL!

You can add several highly modified A series powered kit cars, Vans and a very quick MK2 Escort into the list - erm perhaps I have spent too much time tinkering

Cheers
Luke

then BX19GTi, and a Volvo 240 Turbo but that the BX can beat anytime.
now the 16 valver and soon an XM 2.0 turbo.

Nothing majorly fast (well nothing with four wheels anyway), but I did have a lovely - well rusty - Mk1 Scirocco Storm with the K jectronic system, 1600cc block and close ratio five speed box. Great launch potential but ran out of steam near motorway speeds.

Everything else deemed rapid or 'performance' has been a Honda motorbike, including a couple of 1 litre V4s. Not much can touch them still in a straight line.

I had an Opel Manta GT many years ago, it replaced my first ever Bx.
As many of you know I had a 2.8i Capri a few years back also, not really sure these count as "perfomance saloons" though!
Past 16v's: 89 Ph1 Black, 90 Ph2 Grey, 89 Ph2 Black, 91 Ph2 Grey, 91 Ph2 Black.

Now. 94 Datsun Silvia S14 rice rocket, 85 Peugeot 505 Turbo, 77 Ford Capri.

Not much in the way of performance saloons really, more hot hatches or diesel smokers.
I've had an Activa, if you can count that. Not really a performance machine, but it was mighty impressive!
Otherwise I had a Nissan Primera 2.0 GT which was technically a performance saloon. Didn't have much performance though...150bhp apparently. b*****ks! Cornered well, but then so should any car with suspension that stiff!

Oh, had an Alfa 156 2.5 V6. Suppose that has to count, it had quick rack steering and 190odd bhp. Not a performance machine as such though, but it was the sportiest model they did at the time.

The 156 3.2 GTA is my favourite performance saloon by far....you think a BX 16v is quick? You wanna try one of those!

My next car should be a performance saloon.
