Out of interest I just looked on the DVLA site and my old black ph2 is still taxed :D

It would be nice if its owner showed up on here, I'd like to see some pictures of how its looking now, hopefully as good or better than it was looking 3 years ago.
Past 16v's: 89 Ph1 Black, 90 Ph2 Grey, 89 Ph2 Black, 91 Ph2 Grey, 91 Ph2 Black.

Hi All,

A bit random, but under the freedom of information act, Your council is beholden to disclose data to private individuals if they ask. This employment might be for the can under the newly disclosed government cuts.

But, supposidly on the isle of wight (where i live) they had 2 or 3 people looking up things for anybody who emailed in a question or 5. This was there job task. (I would ask quickly)

So they might be beholden to give out data - assuming it is not under the data protection act.

Go for it.

I am planning to put another Ph. 2 on the road next year. It's been SORN for nearly 5 years...

Not that it'll have too much impact on declining numbers: I think a good BX generally is becoming hard to find, so it's hard to understand why this didn't fetch more! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-BX-HURRIC ... 0482477653
Long-term BX-owner (had a Ph.1 and a Ph.2 in the recent past). Currently: GTi 8v, 219k miles (!), XM 2.0CT Exclusive.

most likely didnt fetch much as its a 140k deisel bx to most!!
that and its over ther bxclubers like to paty for cars!!
the hurricanes a nice model but isnt really all that special, not in terms of the 16v's or to some extent, the 4x4's, although they do tend to go very cheap for fears over costs of spares!!

People ignorance and being worried over suspension problems have always made the Bx/Xantia & C5 a good used buy , having owned quite a few of each and having no serious problems with any make them a fantastic buy fir people who know the cars are just more than just odd French cars , back in the day I have bought three year old valvers with 80k & fsh for £3000 when similar astra gte 16v's etc were fetching way more and we all know how c#%p they are , same with the xantia three year old 1.9td's with a few miles on for the same money you can't go wrong , I'll not speak of the C5 as it' not one of citroens highs really but the 2.2hdi I had was a comfy , torquey bus , Mark

I bet there's even less Astra GTEs of a similar age still around than there are BX 16Vs! Given their propensity for breaking out in chronic rust if living outdoors, plus the love of kit car builders/manufacturers for the 'red top' 2.0 16V motor, which must outstrip the 205 brigade for taking motors out of otherwise sound cars, there can be very, very few left by now?

Ive got a lovely mk2 Astra GTE 16v Champion which is cherished and the engine is staying were it is.Im sure your aware because you seem to know everything that the C20xe Vauxhall/opel engine was found in a lot more GM variants than Peugeot/Citroen ever planted the XU9j4 into any of its cars.In fact its so good Lada were using it in BTCC last year. The Vauxhall engine is probably also one of the top five production engines of all times and easy to convert to RWD due to the many conversion parts and its Motorsport heritage. The power gains torque and drivability are amongst the best i've ever know for a Normially aspirated lump. However I must confess Im guilty I extracted a C20xe out of a moldy old cavalier and put it in a vauxhall viva, scaralidge!!! I'm going to hell on a hand cart as it was such a crime   equally I removed a Mi16 from a 205 and used most of the parts on My Superchargered BX,sweet justice in many ways, does that mean? Have I repented and are to face purjatory to be judged for my sins??. may i yet vist heaven?

My point Why be branded as a criminal because you utilise scrap.it winds me up that people get so upset and uptight if a car they're a fan of has a engine people want for another.

the 16v lump was in a few of the psa cars, mainly pugs, but was in the 309 gti-16, 405 mi, 306 xsi (P2 16v lump if you like) iirc it was also in the 605?? , Bx obviously, Zx 16v,
and the Mi lump was the development lump for the psa Rally teams engines up until they changed over a few of years back, although to look at they would have looked Nothing like it it was still the homologation engine! (in the 206's and the Xsara's before they changed design)

but in terms of kit car use its not half as popular as the red top, but possibly due to being not so Mass produced, know the vaux biys loved it back in the Nova days! just a shame the chassis wasnt up to the power in the astra!
i do know that tyhe Vaux guys are Fiercly competetive with the red top lumps on powers std to rival engines! used to see it all the time on the forums out and about!! oh, and the mildly exagerated top speeds from the 'slightly' over reading dash's!

i think the point with the bx 16v lump is that people are/were breaking perfectly good t+t'd cars for the purpose of taking engines only. which in turn made the rest of the vehicle into scrap! if a car is rusted out and is already pretty useless then fair enough, but destroying a decent rare car so some twit can gain a pitiful 30bhp is pointless. they should have bought a supercharger instead :D this subject will till the end of time cause friction on this forum so is possibly best to be left alone.

20XE's a great lump, but only the earliest Cosworth-cast versions are equal to the XU9J4 IMO. So most early Astra GTEs (they're whaay too fast for the chassis!) will sit with a BX valver, if not slightly outpace it due to the extra grunt they've got. Quality engine for a mass-produced unit.

The XU9J4 lump has really only ever been fitted to the BX 16v, 309GTi 16 and 405 Mi16. The 2.0 lump is really a different engine in fairness, pretty much everything south of the head excluding the sump pan is different.

It's not used in kit cars so much due to the oil starvation issues (you'd get it by braking hard, not cornering fast!) and the fact it's quite a tall engine, and needs to be mounted at the right angle for the oil flow, as things like the oil rails in the head use different size jets to overcome the engine's angle vs gravity....something that's a bit tricky to achieve in some of the 7-esque chassis' out there. It'd definately struggle for room in a Supercat, but I think a Dax Rush or Westie might be better suited for it, purely as the chassis generally avoids the areas the engine's components would need to sit. Then theres the gearbox issue.....what do you fit? If you're not into making custom bell housings and input shafts, where do you look? Caterham used Type 9 boxes on their K-series Seven's, and Rover used Peugeot BE boxes (albeit massive improved internally so they don't feel like a bucket of bricks - quite alot of Pug guys are starting to use Rover internals in their gearboxes!) on some of the K-series engined cars, so in theory if one fits the other they can't be that far out.

If you're wondering, yes, I do have a spare engine and yes, I am trying to figure out how to convince it to sit happily in a kit car chassis! Renault transaxle is where I'm at currently!

I understand it'll fit nicely into the Matra Murena. And that produces a scorcher.

kitch I'm totally with you.although i must say...and I'll keep this short since its not a Vauxhall forum that the later GM Kolben Schmitt cast head versions are better for performance due to the larger inlet ports but suffer from the cracked oil gallerys giving the porus head syndrome.as well as other inferior internls and externals. The early non LN cosworth made engine is better, forged pistons and a steel crank etc.....pure internal combustion porn.
As far as performance against the XU9J4 its pretty hard to seperate them really, although had PSA got the exhaust flow right and not balls'ed it up, im sure it would have torn a 16v Astra in two (and yes your so right they handle crap).

Only point I was trying to make ref the Astra GTEs is in response to Mark's post about the relative values of BX16V and Astra GTE back when they were only a few years old - that now it's highly unlikely you'll find many of either around, simply because for one reason or another they've fallen foul to market conditions/tin worm/desirability of the oily bits

Im not sure that argument would ever stand up in the real world. As much as i love the Citroen Bx 16v and arel aware of it capabilites, its difficult to compare it to a cult 80's hot hatch like the astra gte 16v. If you parked a mint bx valver next to a mint astra gte and ask the first 100 people that walk past which they'd like to drive away in i doubt they would be much of a contest. Some cars will always be fasionable which is why maybe a lot more 16v astras are getting restored and saved than citroen bx's ?
