First DNF of the year yesterday. Steering broke so front right tried to go right, but the car was heading straight along Brabham flat in 4th so fortunately we went forward leaving a long skidmark up to the marshal's post.
Had raced on Saturday with no problems, 7th in Tin Tops class and 4th in up to 2 litre modifieds.

Well i bet that is mighty irritating, a DNF, but at least the car didn't decided to go play on the arm-co! What failed, out of interest, was it as simple as a track rod end?

Yes. Thread gave out. It was well worn and adjustment was extended to cope with a bit of extra camber.

Better news from Silverstone. We managed to finish all the races this time and picked up 2 x 4th in class for Tin Tops and 2 x 5th in Quaife modifieds.

Car still not in the best of health. Lots of vibration as front end geometry still not right - no time to set it all up properly as only finished? putting it back together on Friday. Could not get hold of BX 16v driveshafts so used Xsara VTS ones instead. The Xsara ones are fine for length but are hollow tube rather than solid and the extra diameter caused some contact with the droplinks when turning sharp left or right. Exhaust blowing from front box and manifold joint.

We have a few weeks to get everything sorted before the last races of the season so hopefully we'll have a fitter Bertie for Brands

Awsome :-)

Im running in the Danish Youngtimer challenge but unfortunately I have to settle with a bmw 325i as my racecar.

I had plans on building a 16valver for race but I couldnt find the time to do it so I bought a trackready E30

Still major fun on the track though and the RWD makes it that more exciting hehe.

The 59 car is mine

Good luck with your racing. A BMW is probably better on track than a BX.

Bertie Driveshafts

Post by phil.slater1 »

Hi Gary,
I think I have 4 BX 16V driveshafts - all in good condition. with abs bumps.
Regards Phil
(I've just been catching up with the progress of Bertie and read of the driveshaft problems).

Bertie is clean and working. Will try and get him on the rollers before Brands and if enough time play with exhaust/boxes.

We've only entered the modified saloon races as there is a chance of a class championship podium at end of play. We are just about hanging on 3rd in class E with two guys in striking distance of us. Overall we should be top 20.

In production we are 5th in class just 1 point ahead of sixth and no matter what happens we can't drop lower than 6th ourselves or lower than 12th overall so not really a lot to play for hence concentrating on mods..

There are several races on the web on Digitextv. Plus plenty of stuff on youtube (mainly being lapped) - look under QMN Brands Hatch or Silverstone for any late 2012 or 2013 dated uploads.

Will get to sort pics/video out and put it on my website (www.bxsport.co.uk) or at least link to it. Have purchased camera for Bertie so hope to have some incar at next race.

At the moment any web work is mainly confined to updating it with sale items to make some space in the workshop for the end of season stripdown/rebuild.

Lots of bashing and crashing over the weekend fortunately Bertie did not get involved although he had his own problem when a droplink broke at the start of race one. Nursed him round for a finish. Going better in race 2 but an extended safety car period saw the race finish under full course yellows.

Good news is we finished 3rd overall out of 10 in Quaife Modified class championship and 10th overall out of 50 cars.

In Tin Tops we held on to 5th in class of 10 and took another championship 10th overall from 22 cars.

Wow! It's 2014 already. Not done a lot to the car since end of season. It is still looking good (in parts) but a couple of areas need sorting. Driver's side rear arch (metal) is totally "£$%^&* so need to put in a new or secondhand piece. Have seen new arch sections on web for about £50 a side but thought I'd see if anyone has any they have chopped off when breaking an old car.

Plan is to run in modifieds only this year so have stripped a tailgate down to just a lump of plastic. Next will be to reduce down the internal braces and fit perspex in place of the glass. Class weight limit is approx 150kg less than current weight so we need to find many more places to add "lightness".

We have a confirmed entry for our first race of the season at Brands Hatch on April 12/13. New Bertie is coming along slowly, hope to debut him in May.
