Hugh. Can you get hold of a 21mm rear one? It will help keep the car flatter but depending on stiffness of shell you may get a bit of rear wheel cocking.

If you go to the BARC QMN photo page you will find the latest set of pics from last weeks outing. There are several showing fwd cars going thru Surtees/Mclaren and you will see they all lift an inner rear wheel to some extent.

If you can't get a 21mm bar then double up on the rear with a second arb trimmed of its ends and clamped together if allowed.

I have a pretty good roll cage in the car (although it isn't turreted yet), so it is pretty stiff. I have a Ph2 road car as well, and if it wasn't sitting at my sister's house 600km away I'd have swapped ARBs by now!

I am still hoping to find one closer to home...

Round 3 this weekend with another pair of races at Brands Hatch. 5 entered in class so just finishing will reap decent points.

Round one is on Motors TV Thurs 29th.

5 entries in the class and we took a pair of 4ths. The gods are with us though as we now head the class championship and move up to 7th overall. Not being the fastest is ok for the championship as long as we finish and the guys at the pointy end fight for the wins - 6 races in, 4 different winners. It would be nice to get in and mix it a bit more or just to get a bit closer to the real action.

Weighed in at 972kg which is 15kg less than round 1, still a very long way off class minimum. For round 4 we should have slick tyres which will help if it is dry. The last weekend was very wet in race 2 which is when I ran out of talent and stuck Bertie's nose in the armco (we did finish though).

Round 2 we had front and rear cameras and the footage has been sent off to tv company.

8 entered in the class this week. Not looking good for decent points as probably 8th quickest on paper. Hope to run slicks this time out, maybe they will help.

Managed to poke Bertie's eye (headlight) out on the rear end of a Clio but still picked up 2 finishes - 5th and 4th - so reasonable points haul.

Weekend saw 6 entered in class and we picked up a 4th and 3rd. Peter Winstone's gorgeous MK1 Escort finally made it to the top spot and doubled his win tally in race 2 to take the class lead with Bertie now second.

We have added another race date to our schedule - Donington Park on 30/31 August. We are entered in the Special Saloons and ModSports races.

Brand Hatch GP circuit next weekend. 7 entries for the class and as usual we are likely to be the slowest of the 7. As we get closer to end of season it becomes more important to keep finishing each race as one score has to be dropped at end of season. We are 18 points behind Pete Winstone (Escort) but currently we have to drop 14 points. 3rd placed car is 63 points behind us with 4th 67 points and 5th 70 points adrift. 6th to 10th are all over 100 points down. 3 rounds to go and each has a max score of 58 points with the top ten in class counting all points going forward except for us.
Overall we are 9th and one of only 3 cars to pick up points at each race.

Well it was a good/bad weekend. Not really sure whether it helped or not points wise. Saturday we finished 6th which meant we lost ground to championship class leader Pete Winstone who finished 2nd in class behind the Dean Renault which gained on us but is still third. 3rd was the Wall Renault (6th in c/ship) with Ross Fiesta 4th (7th in c/ship) and Gibbons Fiesta 5th (8th in c/ship). Behind us was the Richardson Nova (c/ship 4th).

Sunday our race was pulled. We prob would have finished last as the Richardson Nova was sorted but the Dean Renault had gone home with gearbox probs so everyone would have gained on us but crucially we could have negated the points win of the Woods car assuming everyone finished as before. Only time will tell if this is a determining point in our championship.

To help ease the upset caused at the weekend the race club have offered us a "free" race at Brands Hatch on September 7th. It will be a non championship trophy race.

As mentioned a few posts back we put in an entry for a Special Saloon race at Donington. Wow! Have you ever been behind a Porsche 935 going in to Redgate with its exhausts spitting and trailing flame. What a sight! Nearly forgot to follow him thru the corner. The guys at the front end were fast, very fast. There were a couple of the more famous Thundersaloons out ie the Carlton and the Fast Car 309 also the iconic Baby Bertha. Bung in some Fords and some spaceframed motors and V8 MGBs and you have a truly wonderful diverse mix of old racers. Needless to say Bertie tried hard and qualified 18th out of 23 entries although only 20 managed to record a time. The race was full on as we chased a 250 bhp Escort for 10 laps (couple of times we squeezed by only for the superior power to slingshot the Escort back in front) to finish 17th and only a second behind our nemesis. Race 2 we went quicker but something did not feel right after a few laps so I switched everything off and coasted back to the pits.

We are due at Brands this weekend but will probably have the engine in bits.

What a mess! Looks like a complete rebuild is on the cards. We'll endeavour to get Bertie back on his wheels for Lydden for the penultimate round and definitely for Brands in November so we can finish the QMN championship. This may be a blessing of sorts as we have found a number of things as the engine has been dismantled so hopefully a rebuild will put a bit of a spark back in the old boy.
