Im still around

Post by robin hughes »

Hi All,

Its been a long while since i last posted anything but 2013 is going to be a good year for me :-). A lot of things have changed recently and im now working again in a full time job earning decent money. I still have the 16v although its been sornd and dry stored since 2009 but i no longer have the escort rs turbo as it became to expensive to maintain and realy wanted to have the bx back on the road so ive sold the escort and bought a very nice low mileage phase 2 citroen xsara vts on a 51 plate to replace the escort and can now concentrait on the bx 16v.

im putting a fair bit of my wage back each month and buying up the parts i need when i can although i need a standard uncracked gearknob? if anyone can help me source some bits. I also have a local bodyshop owner (keith rule) coming out to give me a quote on bodywork and a full professional repaint although im looking to get quotes from other places too as i want the car as mint as i can get it so it will have to got to a professional and not a back street garage.

Me and dad have started doing bits at it and have rplaced the cambelt and tensioners, drivers side rear arm bearing and removed the old octopus and put in all new return lines seperatly to a manifold that we had made up and it works rather well and all conections are now up to and easy to get to. Weve also started taking the bodykit off to save labour as it needs 2 new sills. Ill also be taking the interior out myself so i know anything wont be damaged in the process.

Good to see you back, been a bit quiet on here.
Prefer it to the Lamborghini, like Signor Gandini!

Hi tim,

yes the escort has gone now. i sold it to a chap round the corner in holmbush st austell less than 2 miles from me!, hes going to do what little work is needed ( most was done by me :-( ) then use it as a weekend car. I knew it would sell to the first person to see it as for an escort it was in very good order, a lot better than 90 % of them i have seen and mine had 95% original panels too! however ive decided i just cant run two classics side by side as it was getting to expensive and i realy want to get the bx done now. It was a tough decision to get rid after owning the car 10 years and knowing it before that but i had to do it and do miss it but heyho. The xsara vts i love to bits, Its quick ( not quite as fas as escort but that did have a stage 2 turbo and was running 15 psi of boost but thats to be expected. Ive had darren do the cambelt, drive belt and rear discs and pads on it and ive had it on the ramps at my mates garage and its mint underneath... no rust at all, i paid £1000 for the car from a dealer and £148 on top to tax it for 6 months, its got full service history and every mot to back up the 55,000 miles its done and it drives faultlessly.... im very impressed especialy the handeling.

I will be updating the thread in the members project shortly as soon as ive got some more bits bought up. Its just going to be pics of bits at the moment im afraid as i want all the bits tegether before it goes off for a repaint and a bit of welding when i find the right person who i trust to do it. In the mean while ill cary on removing the bodykit with dad and will hopefully be getting a few parts that have been deleted by citroen like the fuel filler neck machined up ( at cost ) by the guy that did my manifold for the return lines.
