Alloy wheels

Post by Anonymous »

Hi - just wondering what the best way to sort out alloys is when a close family member has exfoliated them rather enthusiastically with the curb

alloys

Post by Toddman »

Hi
Really depends on the rim and how deep the curbing is.
If it is deep then ideally a lathe or specialist tooling is required to take the alloy back to undamaged surface.
If it is light then you may be able to rub it down and polish it back yourself.

Are they std 16v rims?

Cheers

Bex

If you're anywhere near Crawley, there's a place on Manor Royal called Wicked Wheels - they charge £55+VAT per wheel, so not cheap.

There may be somewhere nearer to you as they're a chain

Well she's taking it to Devon first so I think I'll reassess the damage after that  Thanks though, will shop around a bit :) .

There are also the 'man (or person) in a van' franchises that come round to your home, or place of work, and refurb them for you there and then.

Depends on the level of damage - a 35 quid job will almost certainly be cosmetic only, and won't deal with corrosion or missing chunks from the rim other than dressing it.

If it needs a full chemical clean etc it will go up a fair bit.

Ah right - yeh it's really just scuffed around the rim, nothing too deep but surface has rubbed off. I'll try & get someone to see what they think & get a quote, if not will post a photo, thanks for all the advice!
Where abouts in Cornwall are you Timmo? I have friends in Camborne area - had first ride in a BX16V down there! Unfortunately it got sold to some idiot who wrecked it :(.

Bex,
If your not too far away, give "Spit and Polish" a try they are in Tonbridge and also do a mobile service.

The Wheel Surgery is conveniently located to the rear of Witmun Engineering in Merstham.

Small world indeed! My friend in Camborne had a red H plate for a while, no gold though!

I'm in Worthing (next to Brighton) but tend to travel round the country a lot so could always stop off somewhere & get wheel sorted, on a slightly limited budget though so may have to wait a bit, had several bills for sorting things out already, the joys of BXs hehe. :D

Worthing is my home town, and i've noticed metioned cars on my travels.
