Ring dimensions required

Post by mark239 »

Hello

I'm looking to get a set of totalseal gapless top rings - have a set on my 600hp MR2 turbo, but I need to know the ring dimensions on the standard pistons?

If anyone knows that would be great - otherwise I'll measure them with a micrometer when I strip the engine!

I was saying I have a set on my MR2 already - and I need to know the ring dimensions of the standard BX 16V pistons in order to fit a set to my D6C.

I think it may be out with the micrometer and calipers!

Have you had a look on the Citroen parts website (service.citroen.com), i suspect that is the sort of random information you might just find there. Though i would be surprised if Mandic didn't know.

Would you measure from a new ring? Presumeably a used ring would be worn and out of perfect tollerance? How is a such a ring fitted? I'm not an engine man myself but i can see the benefits to be had.

Couldn't give the dimensions off the top of my head TBH, not something I've ever checked.

There's a few types of gapless ring Vanny, some are "overlap" rings with steps in the end of the ring that, er, overlap when fitted to the piston, some I've seen are a bit like tongue and groove, interlock type things, and the coolest ones I've seen, and fitted on the ambulance, were a bit like a big slinky!
You just wound the whole thing like a spring over a thread, cant remember who made them now, but they really were cool!

Piston dia is 83mm

Both top rings measure 1,5mm in height and are 3,35mm thick

Oil ring is 3mm in height and 2,5mm thick

Measurements were taken on used rings using vernier caliper.

I have some new rings somewhere, will check 2morrow.

Hope it helps,

Cheers

Have thrown 2.0 rings away, but piston has indeed notches wide for 1.5, 1.75 and 3.0mm rings.

Cheers
