question about ECU...

Post by icrc »

I have a question about ECU and hp...

my car fit 1.9 Mi16 engine with cat, so its ECU code is 161 and get 150hp ...

if I change the ECU to 355 one, could I get more hp?
or should I get a chipping ECU with original one?

while way will be better?

thank you!

p.s. I'd removal my CAT...
I like Citroen so much. Now I have a BX TZi and BX 19 GTi...and had convertted TZi to GTi 16V... It's wonderful !

I don't believe swapping the ECUs will help - the differences between the 2 versions of engine are mainly compression ratio (different pistons) and cam timing (different pulley on exhaust cam)

If you fit the ECU from the non-cat it will just give you incorrect fuelling most of the time.

Most 'chipped' ECUs for non-turbo cars are a complete waste of time and money without going to the expense of changing other major components.

If you've removed the cat, I hope the lambda probe is still in place?

The most cost effective tuning route for making a significant difference to performance is to supercharge that engine - it's possible because of the lower compression ratio. You would then need to run a completely new programmable engine management system set up on a rolling road.

Nothing else will give you a major boost in performance without being similarly expensive (eg cams) and altering the driveability of the car.
