FAO Anyone who has a Superchip fitted

Post by Kitch »

Get rid of it!! :x

I'm working on a program that can read the maps on the EPROM chips and adjust them on Motronic 4.1 ECUs. I had to have a file downloaded from a spare chip I had (which had a Superchip map). I'd already removed the chip as it was doing some strange things on the rolling road - the chap who plugged it in to download the file was startled to find it was running 19:1 AFR at certain points
The timing was advanced so far it's a wonder I haven't melted something in the 4 or 5 years I've had it fitted (and driven it like a b*****d in that time I might add!)

Here's a link to a PH thread were I've been going through the process:

Basically......they're awful, get rid!

On the plus side, I may soon be able to offer proper remaps on the standard ECU of a BX 16v on my rolling road at work. Watch this space! :D

Some comments from the chap who's developed the software to remap the EPROM chips on these ECUs, having sent him the files from the Powerchip.
Thanks, that showed me where the missing byte was straight away.
I've heard some not-so-good reports about powerchips, and now I know why.
Here's the WOT target lambda table, black is powerchips and green is stock...
Not sure I'd be comfortable with a 19:1 AFR on WOT
And it doesn't look like a lot of thought was put into the part-throttle map either:
There's a few changes to the CTS bias tables, my first guess is that they're doing the "fiddle with the coolant sensor to overfuel" trick, but in software rather than a resistor on the sensor....
There's also a few tables that are trashed/scrambled in the powerchips bin.
I'll post a very crude xdf soon...

Interesting stuff.
Is it possible to make the fuel cut off on over-run more gradual?

I should think so, but then why would you want to be so kind to your engine mounts?
