Front Brakes

Post by cossie »

Can anyone help with where I can get the springs that hold in the front pads?
After being under the car yesterday,I found two are missing on the right side.
Also, does all 16v's have pad wear sensors? Mine hasnt got them neither has Iain a's.I cant see any wiring going to the wheels either.
I had a 16v a few years ago,and that had them and so had Iain's old red one,??????????????
thanks

Halfords used to do a fitting kit for the brakes! iirc they are the same as the 309/205 1.9 8v gti rears and the 1.6 fronts??? (retaining clips wise! - the pack i had i got for my 309 as they are a swine to remove if they havent been copper greased up! lol)

Yes, they should have wear sensors.

The springs don't hold tghe pads in the pins do taht, they stp them rattling! ( so long a stheyre not fitted by a Kwik fit clown) If you cant get a listing for the bX try 205 or 306, some models use similar pad shapes, any dcent motor fctors will have some.

wear sensors are an interesting point, the wiring comes down from the are where theb ABS sensors come through and is routed along the Handbrake cable area and one is earthed to the front stru by the cable suppor.
I don't fit them to mine cos they either don't work cos if dust! as if? and / or the wiring pulled out cos it got snagged on something! what a car design with rotating moving bits in the wheel arch?

Sorry tio be so cynical but the work and care required to fit the woring prpoerly was beyond citroen ,and not worth it! cos you shoukld be checking wheels off at service time anyway and getting a good feel for wear levels long before a sensor is required!

looms

The wear indicator is a plug in loom one on each side they run from the actual pads through the inner arch/wing and then plug into the main loom.

You can still buy these plug in looms although theh abs ones are different to the std ones.

I have a couple of new drivers side ones here that I can take a picture of if you like.

Cheers

Any chance of a pic or two of where they plug into the loom? Then I can get them replaced.

pad loom

cossie here you are
Image

This one is for the drivers side and I have 2 brand new unused ones if you need some.

The difference between drivers and passengers is that the yellow plug is female in the drivers and male on the passengers - I managed to pick up 4 female plugged ones some time back

Hope that helps

Cheers
