Afternoon all you lovely people!!!!

ive a lil dilema thats been stumping me for a while, am semi torn between the two options to strip or repair, Dont worry, its NOT bx related!!!
december '09 we inherited a '00 Clio Mk2 P1 1.4 16v form the inlaws, they upgraded to a ex demo modus but got the equivalent scrappage discount off the car so gave us the clio!
now, its not a bad lil car, 107k, in clean average condition, usual shopping dents etc.
November last year, during the COLD spell, it suffered a Very common issue on the renault engines in that the Cambelt roller pulley disintegrated, (renault in their infinate wisdom use a Lovely big bearing with a PLASTIC shell!! and they are Prone to getting brittle!) so on stripping down the top end needs 12 valves but fortunately as it was slow speed no damage to the head or block, (also common when the roller goes!!)
now on the road the cars worth around £750-800 ish on a good day, is a ltd edition 'etoile' verasion and is in the higher cost lazuli blue - blue with a purply tint to it, and a few little extra's, Sports lights,ac & sunroof etc. its not a bad little car BUt its not all that nice to drive, sufferes from the same Most mk2's do with the Stiff throttle peddle, on off clutch and stiff gear change,
the issue i have at te mo is that to repair it and get it back road worthy is going to cost about £350-£380 ish depending on MOT, (full top end rebuild kit, water pump, cam belt kit, valve compresser, grinder and paste, cam looking tols, MOt and tax)
now providing it goes through the mot it'll stand me in at the above, it would most likely be sold on and would see close to the same as its cost in the back pocket, BUt!! do i strip it down and scrap it?? its got the sport lights which are a few bob, (xenons), did have the fog lights until some theiving pIkey helped them selves to themoff the car when it was in the drive!!! asll the panels are pretty good minus the odd dent here and there but nothing major, decent interior, good bottom end, cog box, new drivechafts etc. unused spare and tool kit, 4 decent tyres etc.
i can semi make space for most the parts (or just leave them on the car until they are wanted) but would have thought that the bits would get to roughly what it would cost to repair,
now, the other point is that what is made form the parts would go into the repair the BX fund and get that back and sorted to its former glory!! = Mucho happy days!!!

i'm a bit torn as to what to do, obviously i like the strip it optoin as it doesnt cost me anything!! but also is it worth rebuilding it??

what do you guys think?? what would you do????

Ta very muchly in advance for reading my dribble!!

Is there much to do Timmo on the valver ? You do get attached to them I know as I nearly had to sell the Zx or my Dispatch van , it would have been the van if it had come down to it , but luckily it didn't quite come to that , keep us posted when you make you decision

on the orig subject, unless you really have an easy outlet for all the parts and space to store them for the next 6 months andn a trailer to go wei8gh the shell in with, I wouldn't break the clio. either sell it complete as tidy non runner, maybe £300? or just spend the dough and have a nice car to sell on.
Whilst clio stuff sells well enough you could wait around for an awefull long time with ebay timewasters!
I have a trailer and some space and do strip cars and sell bits on, and I still wonder why I bother!

basically you spend £380 and a day, sell car for £800 or
spend 2 days pulling apart and then disposing of junk, piss off your neighbours and maybe get a load of idiots and perhaps £400 worth of bits sold and maybe £100 for the shell
If you where a scrappy that would net you more money, I only scrap snotters when theres no other use for them or when I need a specific part.
I'd love to run a scapyard but I just don't have the space!!!!

its sat on the drive on axel stands at the mo ollie with the head off, do neighbours are used to it! that said, one side is 101 years old and the other is 84!! so not such an issue, opposite is a big doctors surgery! have a nieighbour with a Cabstar which i recon we could get it in the back off if needs be!!

part the trouble is that i dont have the disposable cash to lay out, and as the wife's been on maternity leave not had the chance to save for it,
the other issue is
that pretty much all the work that needs doing on the clio needs to be done on the BX, although the engine runs fine it needs a top end rebuild due to Rock hard valve stem seals, however, i have a spare head in the shed for it, just need the valves, also needs the octopus doing but i have one of them and a good mate that will do it, then its tax and mot for that and bingo!!

so part the issue is strip the clio and store the money for the BX to get back on the road, also the BX being Bigger and with 2 littluns space gets taken uip quickly and having two cars the size of the clio means on away trips its packed quite high!!!

heart sais Rip the clio apart for the BX! as what its going to cost me to fix i'd get back in parts!!

will fire off some emails to some trusted friends for opinions too!!
