Gauging interest in my BX16v with throttle bodies

Post by Simran »

Hi guys,

Its been a long long time since ive been on here and its mainly because the car hasnt seen much use of late as ive been so busy with other things. I havent completely decided whether im ready to let go of the BX or whether thats what i really want to do so this is just to gauge interest and get an idea of what its worth these days. She runs well even though the fuelling isnt quite spot on still and always feels modern stepping in to it out of my daily commuter, which is a Volvo 360 GLT from '87.

I recently got her MOT'd and she has a small water leak on one of the engine block to interior heater matrix pipes, which i will fix in the next few weeks. Most of you already know the general spec of my car but for those who don't, here it is:

Silver 1990 G reg BX 16v
Previously owned by Chris White and had XM spheres fitted front and rear, regassed to suit.
Xantia activa Turbo front and rear discs and calipers, fronts are 282mm if i remember right (Mk1 activa)
Compomotive MO5 16" wheels in white with brand new Toyo Proxes tyres
Suzuki GSXR 750 K4/5 throttle bodies and Megasquirt ECU
AEM wideband O2 gauge and lambda sensor
Wasted spark ignition (uses mitsubishi/mini/chrysler coil so that i can use standard bx HT elads)
ITG reaaaally long tapered intake trumpets
Stainless steel dash background (fitted by me but instantly decided i didnt like it but never got round to changing it back)
Sports steering wheel
Leather seats
Aluminium catch tank and silicone breather hosing
Microscan alarm/immobiliser system with remote central locking

The car is starting to show light signs of rust here and there but nothing heavy as yet from what i can tell. The paint on the roof is faded and there is the odd light scuff here and there but it still looks really good after a wash in the sun.

Im finding it hard to justify spending the extra hundreds on a flash air filter set up and rolling road time to get it right and im toying with the idea of putting the engine back to standard if it wont fetch much as it is. I know i will miss it like mad if i sell up so its a difficult decision. Heres a few recent pics of it which, as ive added on, have made me fall in love with it all over again, but here goes...

Hi,

I'm just starting to look for a 16V and struggling to find anything for sale! This looks tidy in the pics, so a couple of questions:

How much effort would it be to get this back to stock? And as Mike said, do you have a price in mind?

Where are the light signs of rust? Do you have any photos showing them and the fading on the roof?

Thanks,

James

James

There's an engine specialist that does work on these engines not too far from Brighton - if it was me I'd get it down to them and have it finished off with an airbox and mapping and it'd be a proper rocket :D

This car has been well known in the club for many years since Chris bought it and was always very tidy. You'll struggle to find any 16V that doesn't have lacquer or paint issues on the roof and bodykit due to the crummy original paint.

Let me know if you want details on the engine place - we had a rebuilt head for out phase 1 from them and it's been awesome :D

Hi Adrian,

That sounds good! I guess it will come down to how cost of car + cost of engine sorting + cost of rust fixing. Have a good bodywork guy in Small Dole so that side not too concerning. Would be good if you could let me know who the engine chap is so I can have a chat with them.

Back to seller: Any more pictures, and is there anything beyond the things mentioned that would need to be done to make this a useable car? Am interested dependent upon price.

Thanks very much

James

PS If you would fancy taking a Fiat Coupe 16V in PX then even better :D

Hi All Concerned.

Hi Simran, I feel like a traitor talking like this.

I have the complete standard 16V intake system and electronics from a H reg and J reg car.
I think I could give you all standard parts for the throttlebodies and megasquirt and standard brakes if you wanted. All in good condition.

Ive rebuild 2 cars in the last 2 years, and just gutted and scrapping another this week.

Im looking to do a throttlebody conversion DIY style like Simran.

Again, dont sell it .

Hi guys,

Just a (relatively) quick reply but i will get back to all the questions in more detail when i get the chance. I would be looking for around £1000 for it which would include all the parts needed to put the engine back to standard if required as i still have these, spare bumpers, standard calipers and various hydraulic parts (height correctors, pump, valve blocks etc) standard wheels if wanted and lots and lots of other bits to help keep the car on the road for a long time to come.

I love the car dearly but i dont have the time and money to maintain it. I know that one day (as all others who have sold up and returned) that i will own another again if this sells because i will miss the quirkyness and raw feel of it which ive still to this day yet to experience in any other car. I love going fast and i'm not going anywhere in this car as it stands and its still managing to absorb money, so i will be looking to buy something modern, clean and fast for a bit of trouble free fun for a few years.

I will give the car a wash over the weekend coming and take lots of photos of its current state so that those interested can make their minds up and maybe help me make my mind up

Any further news on this? Will be out of the country for a fortnight as of tomorrow so would be good to know what the score is before I go!

Thanks,

James

Hi there,

I have fallen back in love with the car, so unfortunately it is not for sale anymore. All it took was some drives longer than 15mins for me to like it and want to keep it again, hope you find one soon!
