16v engine and box

Post by Gary C »

Have been offered 16v engine/box by a guy in Dartford, he's hoping for £150 ono. Anyone need/want an engine or box? Let me know and I'll pass on your details.

Do you know if it's a D6C or DFW? Cheers.

He says he can't see an engine badge. It came from F reg car.

I'm going to pick up some panels from him later in the week so can have a look at the lump then. Could pick it up and bring it back to Gatwick if it helps anyone.

You after one to supercharge then Jay? My old K plate is still floating about somewhere I think - no idea what the condition is like these days but the last owner I knew of was registered on here :)

If (hypothetically) I suspected there was bore/piston ring/valve guide wear on two cylinders on mine, would that be a reason to look for a new engine...?

Depends on the state of the donor you'd replace it with to be honest. At least if you have a spare you can try fitting it and if it runs like a bag of crap at least you have your original out with a working engine in the car while you strip and rebuild it.

They're not cheap engines to rebuild properly but they're not fundamentally complex

Mine just has two very oily plugs. I've got a few more tests to do before I start thinking the worst, just looking into options... Gary, any idea of the state of the engine?

Not seen the engine. Assume it has been sitting in his garage awhile so as with any motor it would be prudent to whip the sump off at least. I'll give him a call as I still need to grab the panels from him.

Jay,

DFW for sale here:

Low mileage but pricey, You could maybe do a deal for the parts that you want or buy the whole lot and sell off what you don't need.

Been down to pick up panels. Engine has inlet and exhaust manifolds etc. Gearbox is attached complete with driveshafts. With socket on crank the pulley rotated.

He also has set of original wheels 6j x 14 in grey finish. Two I saw looked pretty good although tyres have had it.
