Where to buy water pipes?

Post by soupapes »

One of my pipes (number 16) cracked this week resulting in a leak.

The bad news is that Citroën does not suply this pipes anymore so to solve to problem, the pipe was cutted in the end and fixed again.

Because of the specific curves of the pipe it is not easy to get a new one, and he is so old that i suspect a new leak could come again.

Do you know where can i find new pipes (16 and 17)?

You can get them made up specially, like I am with the pipe in the posting below.

These 2 pipes you need are simple though, so will not cost too much to have made.

I expect there is somewhere in Portugal that will do them for you.

You will have to send them your old pipes so they can get the shape right.

That hose has been unavailable for a while then! i tried getting one a couple of years ago...

It has got a pretty tight bend in it to clear all the crap in that area... I took the original hose down to the local parts place and asked them to match it up with a hose they had in stock. The guy came back with a hose off a Holden Statesman V8 (Australia's interpretation of a car) that was surprisingly close on the first tight U bend. I then just had to put a straight cut in it so I could put a 90 degree twist in the rest of the pipe and joined it with a 3" length of copper pipe and a couple of hose clips. This took the stress out of the hose when fitted to the car. Total cost was less than AU$25 (10 pounds?).

I can post a picture of the modified hose if you're interested...hell, it would be cheap enough to post one to the UK!!!

The other option would be to fit an 13 row oil cooler and do away with the hoses all together!! ;-)

Cheers,

Chris

Mine split due to the specialist the previous owner used to use carrying on like he had a dose of the DTs everytime he tried to fill the oil so it went gooey.
I cut the bad piece out and fitted a couple of black plastic fittings designed to take the heat. I managed to get a new hose to replace it, but after about 3 years use, the bodged one was in such good condition I was a bit hessitant to change it.
If you go this route, use a coat of contact adhesive over the fitting before fitting the hose and use new jubillee clips. It's hard to adapt another hose apart from the original because IIRC one end has a slighty larger diameter than the other.

In case anyone is suffering from this problem i've just had the same issue with citroen over a TD BX, for which similar parts are still vailable and can be adapted to fit the 16v, however GSF also sell odds and ends of TD hoses still - prob random stock and ive just canibalised the lower t peice radiator hose to get the approprate tight bends to fit to the RAD with reducer sections. 15 quid is pricey for a bend but not as bad as Citroens 27 quid for essentially the same part! nor like there 53 quid bottom hose which i declined!! helps that theres still a bucket of dead TD pipes in the garden....

its amazing what can be done witha bundle of scrapyard heater hose snd some joiners.
