Garys racer utilised the trap door sump and suffered no trouble whilst racing.

Did Gary extend the pick up?

Not sure but I do think they used a different oil pump possibly from the 2.0 as they did a bit of mix and matching - also in respect of your exhaust question the racer ran a 2 box custom system similar to th eone I describe in th eother thread.
Maybe worth dropping Gary a pm about the oil pump and sump though.

I don't think it is necessary to change the sump/
If you notice under the 16V sump there are cooling fins
Air flow underneath will sort of cool the engine oil in the sump.
So don't change it. If you really want the trap door
just cut it out from the 2.0 sump and weld it back on the 16V sump,
then you have the best of both worlds.

UK is quite cold compared to other countries,

If those fins are saving Your oil from overheating then You have other problems. Oil surge if far far more dangerous compared to couple deg. hotter oil. But yes, doing conversion is best thing, but mostly people like to keep things simple. If You are worried about oil temp, put different oil in.

Ya here even water temp always hovering 90-95
Oil temp if driven hard or uphill can reach 110-120.

The radiator on the a/c version is pretty small
much smaller than on the 8V.
