Yer i know what your saying doc. I dont take it to heart i just dont understand how the bx club works lol.
Sorry to hijack this thread but doc if you read this i have a bin bag full of wiring loom from an 89 phase 2 bx 16v ( 2 row ecu ) with aircon. Im fitting the aircon in my car this summer but i dont understand wiring??. Would you ( For a Fee of course ) be intrested in breaking the loom down so i could get the aircon loom seperated? as i have no idea how to go about it. Its to go into my 1992 phase 2 16v ( 3 row ecu )
cheers rob

/\ what he said!
Me and wires dont get on really.
It all runs on smoke I think...
Installing hardware, rebuilding engines....no problem, but wires..
Once I've done it once then no worries, but I'm still at a loss to work out what the hell to do with the vast amount of wires that came with the kit I bought..
Maybe we should get the cars together and get Vanny to do them both while we drink beer!

Geting the two cars together would be a good option but wether vanny woud agree to that i dont know . I spent 4 hours yesterday de-greasing most of the air con parts as the 16v they came out of was very dirty. Still got the sump, compressor and a few other bits to clean yet though.
Sorry pics arnt to good as it was very sunny here yesterday.

i really hope thats not all the parts or your missing a few things! Pump, condensor, wiring, controls, and mos importantly (and this is crucial) the idler for the long serpentine belt. The big canister thing will need replacing (the drier, can be aquired for about £40) and you'll need a full set of neoprene seals. You also need to wash the insides of the pipes out with white spirit (or thats what i've been told to use). I ran out of money part way but the wiring is in and tested. Maybe i'll get some more of it done this summer

Hi vanny,
yes i have the pump, all facia controls/switches and i do have the condenser rad but it is well worn out and full of holes. There is one extra pipe that hasnt been photographed yet as i have not finished cleaning all the parts. the only thing ive just realised i ant got is the idler and the engine it was on has been sold . Ill have to have a word with the engines new owner and see if its still bolted on there. dam!

heres a pic of the aircon facia all nicely cleaned up...
and the pcb board which im going to unscrew the aircon switches and put them on my pcb board fitted in the car
Ill clean the compressor tomorrow.
Where can you get a new receiver/dryer and condensor rad from then oh and those seals you mention?
cheers for the tip about the white spirit

Seals are from Citroen (£14 ish for the full kit, and the cheapest i could find). Drier is readily available from many online aircon supply places in the UK (Google be your friend) be aware that you need the pressure switch from the old drier (so don't through it away just yet). Similar for the condensor, but i think citroen still do these so it might be worth persuing that route?
Assuming that your going to swap to R134 or some other modern coolant (and not R12) you'll need some sort of adapter, and this is the one thing i've not quite figure out yet, if you can buy an add on adapter of you have to have one permanantly fitted (to the pipe with the long metal bit at one end).
You'll also need plenty of oil for each of the major components (pump, evaporator, drier condensor) and some for the pipes. PAG oil of some description is what you need.

spot of blatent advertising here, the above site (assuming its the right guy) i called the owner of the company and he sat for nearly an hour explaining the ins and outs of what was needed and how it could be done at home or he could do it, for what in my belief was spectacular value for money after being told exactly how to do it buy hand and the relative costs. I seem to think that there was a matter of a few 10's of pounds in it, and it made every sence to turn up in derby with the cash and the parts!
just having a look on the site, condensors for citroens are £62!! buy one fast, doesn't list for the BX but i suspect he can get one!

my god no, if your that concerned, post me the loom in foru weeks, i'll split it label it and ship it back! there is only ONE wire that connects to the original loom, and that can be made to plug directly into the fuse box (the single wire hole marked 'AC', after that theres a bit of wiring in the cabin, a bit of wiring on the fans, then a couple of connectors to the pump and drier.
i'd like to say childs play, but i made all manner of modifications to my loom at the same time (you know you need twin fans, and the fans come on FULL when you start the aircon??) but then i don't have standard fan wiring (i have that of a pug 405 posh model)

The twin fan set up is alread on my car. I fitted it
ill take you up on the offer with the loom and ill pay you for your time as well.
weve still got the blue gti 8v with the arcon fitted so if i get stuck ill probably end up taking that apart to copy things

The GTi and 16v and TZD systems are all very different and not overly compatible (the biggest problem i will have with Docs setup i think) the 16v increases the idle speed with the aircon turned on, as does the GTi but they both do it in different ways!
The twin fan setup requires big relays and a total overide method, not just the twin fans, and i dont think citroen did a kit to include the relays? You end up with like 12 relays under the little cover in the scuttle!
THe pressure sensor looks right, but you already have a functioning one in the drier so just use that
the price of the condensor looks to be about right for the prices i've been quoted from major suppliers, but autokool are not a major supplier but have major links, i hope they can get one on the cheap. THough to be honest mine is in quite good condition,
Biggest issue you have to consider is that the whole thing needs pressure and leak testing, then needs the whole system pulling down into a vacuum (devoid of air and hopefully moisture) then filling up. Something that can be done by the DIYer (test fill with NO i think, then bring to vacuum with an old fridge pump modified a little), but struck me as a lot of faff!

Ah right. Luckily ive got the twin fan set up off the car i broke plus all the relays under the scuttle. about 8 in total i think?.
The whole thing sounds complicated and a farce but it wont defeat me even though im 300 miles away from you lot.
