As some of you probably know I have been out of England for a while now and have not driven a French car since I sold my Bx two weeks before we emmigrated in 07.
I have considered importing a Bx from Europe but in all honesty I cant justify spending that amount of money
Anyway, I have had a fair few cars and pick-up trucks since being here in Canada, currently I'm driving a S14 JDM Silvia, which is an awesome car but completly un-practical and next to useless in the winter here being pretty light on the rear end, also I dont fancy putting a 10k car on its lid in a ditch in a blizzard LOL, so I needed a cheap winter car!
Last month sometime on a local website I came accross a Peugeot 505 for sale, it was very cheap and came with a parts car. The owner has been busy and I finally got to go and see it this weekend. It turned out to be a 505 turbo, not sure if its a GTI but its black with heated leather seats and A/C. It has not been run in a few years, but its complete and as said comes with another 505 minus its engine and gearbox.
I have arranged to trailer them home next week, then I will clean up a few things, change the oil and attempt to get it running, I'm hoping I'll be able to use it as an everyday car and fix it up a bit as I go, but I guess I could have bought a complete dog BUT I only gave beer tokens for it, so its no big deal if I cant get it going I'll just break it and ebay the parts off.
Really hoping it turns out good tho, the inside is in good shape but it needs a spray job, thankfully it appears to be pretty rust free
I'll post up some pics when I get it home!
Cheers Jez

Timmo, I will probably will spray it at some point, will give me some practice for the Capri.
Mark, no its not a V6, I "think" its a close relative of the motor used in the BX4TC. It seems 3 motors were used in the 505 turbo, what I have read they were all so used in Simca's and Talbot's of the same era.
As soon as I have pics I will post some up.

That'll be the 2.2 4-pot turbo lump IIRC. When I was a kid there was a kid in my brothers years who was the school year goon. No friends, bit of a geek. His mum had a sage green 505 GTi/Turbo, B reg one. Mint it was, they had it years.
He's a radio station DJ now, one of the big ones I too I believe. Funny old life ain't it?!

The standard 505 is a very tough car, just look at any picture of an african war zone! no idea about the turbo ones but very cool.
If youre planning on using it in the snow how well do they cope with being rear drive?
I'd be more inclined to use a 205 or 309 diesel in the snow as they have plenty of traction over the front, and do wicked handbrake turns, the diesels especially having plenty of torque to keep pulling you round.

Thats how the guy had my S14 when I bought it, boot was full of sand bags! Probably had the equivalent of a very fat bloke in it LOL.Timmo wrote:Bag of sand or two in the boot and you'll be fine ollie!
I'll just re-use the sand bag stock pile in the 505, the roads here in winter are generally kept fairly snow free, its the sheet ice that's the trouble, at least with the dry powder snow you get a bit of traction.
