bx co level

Post by robin hughes »

Hi All,

as you all know i took the 16v for an mot on monday and it failed on the emissions which has a limit of 3.50 % co well my bx was running at 3.74 and was happy at that (it has been chipped and re-mapped). i had it leaned off to 0.99 for the co test to get it through but now it wont idle proprly it just hunts???. It also smell fuely???????? why is this???? i know my throttle body is quite worn but the afm was taken from a g reg mi16 405 known to be working. Whats the optimum co level to run the bx at?? and why does it smell fuely even though its running lean???

cheers rob

Probaly a high HC. When you adjust the CO, it also changes the values of other different things, scheck the wiringlist.
CO is between 0.8 and Max 1.5% for 16v without CAT (xu9j4)
I've also a program called Caps wich i can email you, just pm with subject CAPS.
It's also very nice to put on the DOWNLOAD SECTION of this site, so moderators just PM.

Wind the adjuster back in!

I found with all 3 of my 16valvers (89/90 phase 2's) that if you adjusted the mixture screw so that CO was about 1.5% it gave noticably more punch in the midrange. Dont ask me why the idle mixture adjustment did this, but it worked!
For me, the start of the power band shifted from 4000 down so that you could feel it starting to pull harder from as low as 3500.
Just remember how far you screw the adjuster in or out when it comes to passing the MOT test

If you run lean at idle it just missfires and then you get high HC and hence smell! CO measures what happened to what burnt, HC is what didn't burn at all!!

Mine runs best around 2.5 but all are different!
