Pedals

Post by csg100 »

Have been doing the clutch cable today, and it turns out the problem was actually the pedals, the cable mount on the back of them has broken:

Has anyone got a spare set? Are they the same as other BXs, or specific to the 16v?

Cheers

im 99% sure all BX pedal assembalys are the same,it is quite common for them to brake, usualy that hole bracket pulls away at the spot welds, the other point the y go is were to throtle pedle pivots, then you loose go as you dont get full throtle

Ther are two types of pedal boxes, the earlier ones have a spot welded clutch bracket which peels apart, the later is stronger, but the accelerator pedal is weak as Citronut points out.

Wouldn't bother with a spare set just get yours welded, that way it can be beefed up to prevent re-occurrance, and put a little strap accross to hold the accel flange square.

If you scroll down this page, you'll see a pic (it's the 7th last message) of a clutch pedal and a mod that cures it.
A problem that was quite common many moons ago.

Thats a clutch operating arm which is attached to the bell house, it's also the BE1 linkage.
I guess it could factor into the pedal box problem, along with a dry/chaffed/rusty worn clutch cable, so might be worth checking, but i suspect that as csg has a ph2 (i think) then it's likely the car has a BE3 box which doesn't tend to suffer from this as it has an alternative actuation setup.

Separte problem! the bellcrank one is common to all Peugeots... and heb=nce citroens.

All boxes are interchangeable, but get what you can and strengthen before fitting. Usually only fail when cable is heavy for other reasons like worn clutch or seized cable so do cable anyway.
