bit of a plee realy

Post by robin hughes »

Hi All,

As you know my dad has a triton green ( rare as hell ) BX 16V with quite a high mileage on it (185,000). I feel a bit guilty realy as the car was suppost to be mine with me selling the rst but my dad ended up having it. As far as im concerned its lovely with original paint work and for the mileage its in realy good condition. as with any old motor it has a few probs but nothing major. i fear he may sell it. as its having a few probs at the mo but i think it would be a BIG mistake. I think he needs a bit of encouragement as the cars better than i lot ive seen ant its totaly reliable. How many triton green 16v s have you seen?.

To be fair, if he wants to move it on you can't really stop him. Let another enthusiast take it on if its a good example.

Sticky wicket Rob! As much as we can try, if your Dads made his mind up then there's no changing it! remember Parents dont listen to their kids int he same way we didnt listen to them when we were teenagers and thought we knew best!
It is a good example matey, but if your dads made his mind up there is probably little we can do! sadly! esp. now the gti is down with yoU!

I had a Triton 16v, Dan B's and I know of another 2 who's current status are unknown, so as you know you have a rare car there Robin.

If your Dad sells it then there is nothing you can really do about it, but take pride in the undersealing and care that you've both given the car and ensure that a fellow enthusiast takes the car on :D

mail me if he wants to sell, I'd be interested, however as others have said, if he wants to sell unless you buy it from him there's not much else you can do!

Hi There,
To be honest i dont think id let him sell it out of the family if he did. Id take it on as its worth more to me than what hed get for it and ive looked at many 16v,s for sale over the years when i was trying to find one for myself and a lot of them are now rough and rotten in places you cant see (ive fell into that trap with a grey one with rotten chassis rails and back end cause i didnt check it properly) got somewhere to store it if needs be....... :D

Tell your Dad it's a family heirloom and you don't want him selling your inheritance off

Hi Rob,

As you know, I've got a nice white valver, at half the mileage of your dads, at the moment and am currently finding out that it's not quite the minter that it looked (but then I think I would be a better checker next time!) .

WIth just two months MOT left on it, I was very close to offering up for sale last week when another pipe seal went (as a result of some idiot leaving the flow valve on loose when they sheared the bolts off trying to remove it!); I also found out the swing arms need doing, I've had to replace much of the exhaust, thge alternator, steering rack gaitor needs doing...mechanic reckons that it should never have gone thourhg its last MOT.

By the time I've got her MOT worthy, I reckon the total bills for repairs will not be far off seven ton in the eight months ive owned it.

But its an acquired taste! I'd rather have this than a V6 Vectra or anything like that; I like the design philosophy and once all the probs are sorted it should be a reliable motor.

Also, I don;t have that much money to spend, so I would have to build up a trust with a new car, and you can always get unstuck whatever you buy.

Depends what situation your dad's in, besides how much would you want, and what probs does it have? I know somebody on "the waiting list" who would treat her like a newborn.
