silicone bottom rad to engine hoses

Post by Mike E (uk) »

Hi,

I want to buy one of these, but to cover tooling costs I need at least four
other folk who want one. This is the long 3 way hose.

Cost will be £75 or less,

please pm me if you are interested.

Before thinking 'no' it might be worthwhile checking if your hose is wearing thin under the wheel arch - mine was.

for me £75 would be too much, however i suspect that is mostly just the cost of the piping? firm price ideally lower and i might be interested.

Robin: Trying to avoid dealing with Spoox, do Samco make these hose sets :?:

Mike: Let me go home and check mine over the weekend. Might be a good idea that you've had.

Spoox do hoses to fit a 16V lump in a 205 - I don't believe they're long enough to fit the BX.

Pretty sure they use Samco hose, but probably to a proprietry design.

I've asked my Dad to have a look under the phase 1 and see how it looks. I know the phase 2 was looking pretty bad when I decided to go through and replace any dodgy pipes and clips - I had to caugh up for a genuine replacement pipe which was the same order of magnitude on price to what Mike is suggesting IIRC.

Will reply when I know more. Any choice of colours, or do they have to be the same? The other pipe that would be good to get made up by them is the long one running across the front of the car to the bottom of the header tank, as it changes shape so much through its run.

Hi Guys,

What you say is correct.

It is Spoox who I am talking too, It is a large and fairly complex hose, not just a simple length of pipe, so I don't think the price is unreasonable given that it will be superior to the original item and similar cost.

Good thing about the silicone is that it resists oil well, worthwhile on these cars that always leak a bit from somewhere.
(I have a Honda that rusts in all the places the BX doesn't.)

I have bought a spoox pipe before and was happy with the quality.

You can choose the pipe colour, but you can hardly see it when fitted.

Thanks Iain,

OK, so we are up to two-

Three more and I can get my car back on the road.

Use the bank holiday wisely and look at your hoses!

i've contact companies over the last 3 months or so to see about getting a complete set, most of them have simply said get stuffed as they don't believe there is anysort of market, i guess there just scared of the BX!

Would a full set of hoses be an option?

A full set may be an option, though I haven't discussed this as I only need the one pipe.

I expect most of the hoses are the same as on the 205 conversions so those will be off the shelf.

But any pipes that are not already made will have the minimum order just like the lower rad hose.

I suggest you talk with them directly, and if you ordered a lower rad hose it would count towards the 5 we need to order.

I personally don't think it really necessary to replace all the pipes, just the few that don't wear so well.

A full set would also be a significant amount of money.

At the moment at least i deffinately DONT have the money, especailly with a lack of job and impending rebuild and insurance to pay for. I might be able to commit in two weeks or so.

Whats wrong with buying a set of TD bottom hoses from GSF and joining them to correct length with the steel pipe mentioned?
