Gutmann wheels on Bx - Tyre size?

Post by Mike P »

I bought the Gutmann wheels from ebay and they were delivered last week.
Have had a trial fit of the rim only and with a bit of tweaking will go on the Bx I think.

To give it a full test, I want to buy 2 tyres and try them as a pair on the front and then the rear before I commit to 4 tyres, new bolts etc.

What size tyre do I need to buy :?:

The wheels are 15" x 7" and to replace the standard 195/60/14 profile.

Will get some pictures up shortly :D

Thanks,

7" THATS HUGE :D

will probably take a good 200+ width tyre with a 55/50 profile.

try here for a calculator and LOADS of info on selection;

I've got 205/50x15's on mine, although under hard cornering with some overly soft rear spheres, I got the rears down to 200/50x15......

There's a handy tyre size calculator here

would have thought 205/50's would be fine mike, although if your looking for the Euro 'stretched' tyre look then bung on some 195's!!!!
think your 17's would have been 7" and they had 205/40/17, your only looking 10mm extra sidewall differewnce in from 205/50/15 - 205/40/17

YOU DEFO NEED TO POST SOME PICS THOUGH!!!!! 8) :D

Thanks for that, off to the local tyre place tomorrow for some quotes for 205/50/15.

Couple of useful links there, thanks.

Timmo, pictures are definitly to follow :D

I've had the wheel on the front hub and already know that it just rubs the caliper so a thin spacer is required. Haven't tried on the back yet, want to get the pair of tyres first.

205/50 R15 would be my choice too as I have run them on 7j rims myself.

Cheers

The local tyre place can do a 205/50/15 Kumo (sp?) for £49 all in, so think I'll go and get a pair later this week.

Initial pictures as promised:

Timmo, I've never tried a Kumo tyre before so good to hear the recommendation thanks.
I guess they look wide because they are quite dumpy at "only" 15" diameter rather than the usual 17".

Tim, I know

They will look good on the car Mike, they look very much like the BBS wheels that go on old VW and BMW ( Mk2 Golfs and 325sports).

Pair of tyres purchased over lunchtime :D

Off home tonight for a further trial fit and to determine spacer thickness required.

More piccies to follow in the morning.
