I suspect a bottle of Rad-Sealer isnt going to be a long term solution to my leaky rad, so I'm looking at replacing. It looks like the diesel rad is a lot bigger than the 16v model, and can probably be picked up from the breakers a lot easier than the 16v specific model.
Will it fit though? And can I use the same dual-fan setup or will I need to get that too?
Will a TD rad fit a 16v?

personally i wouldnt ever put a second hand used rad in any of my cars purely because you dont know how good it is!
i got mine a few years ago now from gsf after chating to luke as he had just doen the same!
iirc it was £63 with antifreeze delivered! pretty good considering its a pretty fundamental part of the engine!

Since the car's not in regular use, you could try and find a 'proper' radiator specialist to re-core the existing rad for you. I've had trouble with so called 'genuine' Ordanez rads from GSF in the past (my K plater had 3 in 3 years!) The only fix appeared to be to use demineralised water rather than tap water - the rad I sold the car with was fine after 2 years.
A re-core will probably be of higher quality IF you can find someone that still does it in your area. I've got a spare re-core that was done in Denmark of all places (got it with a job lot of spares) and it looks 100 times better quality than the Ordanez original!

Yeah, my recent fun with GSF quality VAG parts has left me dubious of buying from them if I don't have to - and a proper Re-Core did occur to me I think theres a radiator specialist quite close to me in Rayleigh about a hundred yards from the Citroen specialist I've used in the past. Havent been there in a couple of years so will have to go check.Adrian E wrote:Since the car's not in regular use, you could try and find a 'proper' radiator specialist to re-core the existing rad for you. I need to drop into the local breakers to see about a rear washer switch anyway so I'll eye up a TD rad for possible fitment.
And see about that Xantia big-disc conversion whilst Im at it
