16v engine number

Post by BrianK »

Call me blind as a bat, but I simply cannot find the engine number on the engine of my 16V. Haynes says it is on the offside, but I'm blowed if I can find it.
I'm too old for this

Mines down by the engine mount, it's a right arse to find it TBH, there's alot of stuff in the way, like the inlet manifold.
The engine number should of course be on the V5(C) log book..

Are you sure its by the engine mount? Every D6C i've ever looked at has the engine CODE by the engine mount, but the engine number is round the back of the block, right on the edge at the cambelt end. I cant see anyway to sneak a peak without taking a lot of stuff off (an endoscope per perhaps?), typically i just smack them off with a screw driver and have a look when they fall to the floor, but that was on the racer so it really wasn't important.

You could be right Vanny, but my engine number is definetly by the mount, on the usual alloy strip with a punched number.

That said, that is where I put it given that I built the thing!
Although I'm pretty sure I removed it from the same place on the original block......

My instinctive thought was "You can't read the bloody thing as the engine mount is in the way!" but after reading Vannys post I am not so sure :D
But I do know it is difficult to read it without removing engine bits.

Vanny's right, it's on the back (as you look at the engine) The engine code is behind the engine mount on the O/S, the number is stamped on a little metal plate which is riveted to the rear of the block just below the head.

Luke...do you remember the reg from the car which had that low mileage block you sold me? Because this is that block!

In fact....

I took this pic when I did the rebuild. I'm pretty sure thats the engine number you're after, although can't be sure unless I tap the reg into a VRM lookup. But seems daft to take a pic of the old knackered block!

The engine came from Mike E and I am sure he will have the cars reg if it is needed - he knew the engines history as well and it was very good.
