Hydraulic pump.

Post by Mandic »

Hi,

Does anyone know how much power is needed to run a hydraulic pump ?

I believe C5 has electric pump, maybe I could ask how powerful that one is.

Thanks!

pump

Post by Toddman »

It is often thought that around 3 - 5 BHP is taken by the pump.
Reason for this figure is the dyno figures often seen from standard mi engined 205 conversions and without one of us running our valvers up then removing the pump drive belt I think that is probably the best guestimate we have.

Didn't the 405 mi 4x4 have a pump in the boot to run the rear beam setup ?

Cheers

3.2BHP is about the top whack of draw, but there are many things to consider that govern how hard the pump works, and that varies depending on the RPM of the engine.

I thought the Mi16 had a pump in the same place as the BX, but I'm probably wrong, it's been years since I've looked at a 405Mi.

But indeed the, C5, C6 etc use leccy pumps, and it wouldn't be that hard to convert, but then the motor works quite hard and draws a fair whack of current, so there will be added draw on the alternator, but certainly less than the effort of driving a direct HP pump.

So 3-5 HP between 6500 and 7200RPM is a rough 5Nm. Cool.

Yes, and T16 also, but IMO it's way underpowered to run BX's hydraulic setup.

Cheers & thanks

Yeah, I know, but I need some rough figure to start with.

Cheers
