I was wondering if all valvers are idling as rough as mine? It has no performance mods except for a cone filter and polished manifold. Heres a small video. Its warm and just stopped after a longer ride, then restarted:

Your N/S arm bearing needs doing!
Erm, yes it does seem rather rougher than usual.
That said, oh hang on, your car is catted right?
So it's the DFW engine?

hiya, mine idles sweet as a nut! but my silver one idles a bit high. my idle fault was the ecu. take your one out and open it up and inspect it for water/condensation damage i.e rust on the main board. alot of them have that problem but it should be an easy fix.

I have one of each, a D6C from 87 and a DFW from 89. The DFW idles a bit high (950rpm) but very steady, and the D6C idle is a little bit lumpy but only 850rpm.
Yours is definitely lumpier than anything I have come across.
Possible faults: - AFM track worn, false air ingress after the AFM, faulty throttle swich so the ECU does not know it should be idling. It could also be the coolant sensor but it should run very rich at any rpm.

is also worth checking and cleaning the breather pipes that are located around the afm/inlet pipes, you'll notice if you take the top one off the pipe between the afm and inlet mani it'll stall pretty damn quick!
touch wood, mine idles sweet as a nut, (has done until i have posted this no doubt!) have never hasd any issues regarding the idle, but then i have stripped and cleaned all the multi plug connections in and around the engine bay, and made sure it has Plenty of Good storng earths too,
it all helps and is effectively free (except new earth cables), all it takes is a little labour to do, possibly worth a look??
as said, check the throttle position senser on the back of the butterfly housing for a 'click' when it sets back to idle, if you have no click then the tps could be gone or miss aligned, (tiny little nuts on the back to adjust it, 8mm i think??)
also worth checking there are no visable signs of leaking seals around your injectors too,

Yes it is the DFW.
To all others - thanks for your suggestions. I'll look for it all tomorrow.
- BTW theres no fault codes.

the racer's idled like that through two shells, two colours and two engines over twelve years! all fine!

I had the same problem, turned out to be the timing belt that wasn't tight enough. These engines are very sensitive when it comes to cam timing.

Funny you should say that. Last time I think I got the timing just right - I never had so much low end power, while still going nuts above 5k rpm. Its in fact the most picky engine I ever come across!
