Hi Mike

QEP were very friendly and helpful - they turned the head around from sitting on the bench as a good spare at their place to ready to fit at 2 days notice. They skimmed it, replaced stem seals on the valves and reground the seats. We'd already established the original head was toast, so knew we were into a replacement. Cost was very reasonable - head looked pretty much like new.

I did enquire about whether it was worth doing anything to mod it, but was told it really wasn't worth it unless you were getting into cams as well - also said they've previously flow tested heads that've been ported elsewhere and the results have been highly variable. They do Thunder Saloons so they're not afraid of going silly on engines but unless you're going to the lengths that Puma Racing used to to extract a small amount of extra power, plus the cost of cams (they import catcams) then the advice was leave well alone.

They have a couple of those new engines that Citroen were shifting some time ago that were designed for cats sitting in their reception area on stands, all built up. Apparently an inlet cam will free up enough power to get them over the stock 160BHP and of course there's the benefit of it being brand new!

Hi mate

It's with Peter Best - details below

http://www.peterbestinsurance.co.uk/ContactUs.aspx

They have an online quote form, but my Dad did that and the quote came in at £220 so recommend ringing them!! Not sure they will cover mods, that might be the only issue.

That price includes me and my Dad covered on it, but limited to 1500 miles. Not a major issue since it's only done 3k since 2005! It's probably not even done 5 miles in the last 2 years.....

MOT in the morning - fingers crossed!

OK, it's failed MOT :(

Nothing major - 1 front sphere plus an earthing fault on the rear lights.

Anyone know if you can still get the correct front spheres for a 16V from anywhere?

Adrian

My Dad spoke to Bristol 2CVs who have a history of doing BXs and CXs too - they did the front struts when they failed on the phase 1 - they were trying to talk him into taking 8V GTI ones instead on the basis that 16V spheres were all but unobtainable.

I'm wandering if it's really just the phase 2 ones that are problematic, supply wise? Local main dealer showed them as available from France in 2-3 weeks at £54+VAT each

Thought GSF had a history of supplying 8V ones for all models even 5 years ago?
