The black mark1 took it a bit too litteraly being a hot hatch



















The tube coming from the hydraulicpump started leaking and she burnt down.
Lcukily a neighbour had a fire-extinguisher and was able to put the fire down. It's going to be a hell of a job to get her back on the road but I have to, I've got to! Anyway I need to try!
Lucky enough I can get all the electronics around the engine from a friend so with a bit of luck this summer she'll be driving again but before that we need to remove the engine, strip the nose, clean everything and rebuild it. And offcourse a new timingbelt is needed again and when the engine is out we might as well fit a new clutch.

Actually this valver belongs to a good friend of mine.
It's really terrible what happened, but f**k it, we're going to fix it!
I can't let it die... not in this lifetime. Luckily I've got a good friend with a lot of 405MI16 parts we can use to fix her up.
But for my own valver I'm going to take some precautions if something would ever happen to it (Halon and Co2 extinguishers in the boot)

Anyway, when we're starting on fixing it I'll post lots and lots of photo's!

I hear that's what happened to the 16V in my avatar (up in smoke), a terrible waste. I had the regulator fry on my last one, lot of gas but no fire fortunately.

Yup it's a bloody shame
All the more since all the work we've put in it not so long ago.
But anyway. Coming sunday we will bring her to a garage where she can stay for a couple of months and somewhere in july we'll get the engine out. Then we'll see what has to be replaced, but I Reccon it'll be a lot. At least the folowing stuff:

- Timingbelt and tensioners
- hydraulic tubes
- hardydisc
- The loom (at least the part underneath the bonnet)
- All sensors
- Injectors
- Clutch (since we're gonna take the engine out)
- driveshaft covers
- steeringhouse covers
- suspension rubbers
- tyres
- battery
- distributioncap
- sparkplugcables
- I guess a lot more

It ain't gonna be easy and it aint gonna be cheap. But damnit she'll run!

Well, we've found a new valver, a black model again, fitted with a leather interior and a horrible tic in the engine. Not too expensive though and the body is far better than the one that got burnt.
Next week we'll pick it up (hopefully she'll hold herself for the 150KM trip home) and then somewhere this summer we'll replace its engine with the engine out of the burnt BX. Too bad but this solution is so cheap that we just can't start fixing her up. Also means we've got more then enough spare parts then

Well, we've picked up the new victim

This one has a horrible tick in the engine, sounds a lot as a worn out big-end bearing. But the engine of the burnt 16V should still be good so somewhere this summer there should be a happy valver driving again in Holland

Also it has been a silent wish of me for a while to move a valver with my valver through Holland and that has come true as well

Oh it's absolutely the same here, most cars may not tow more then their own wieght. And this trailers weight alone is 460KG.
So yeah, I can say I was quite lucky not to meet any policecars on the way home (some 180KM)

Well, I guess I'd better not tell you what it cost us
But yeah, we've been quite lucky.
The owner has been driving it for the past couple of days and it runs real smooth, just the ticking engine is too bad but we'll swap that anyway. Maybe we'll fix this engine as well. We found out it has been chipped and flowed
so the ECU will be used and the inlet manifold as well.

you probably know this, but don't get ANY of the burnt rubber or plastic on your skin!

Burnt out vehicles are dangerous due to the residue of dangerous chemicals, which can result in serious injury and amputations.

Wear good gloves and long sleeves when you remove parts.

Oh thanks for the tip mate!
I didn't know that!
We'll take care of that when we're going to swap the engines in august.
Luckily most of the plastics and rubber under the bonnet are still good (at leas for the oil and cooling tubes, as well for the wheel casing covers (or whatever they're calles ) I guess the hydraulic return tubes and driveshaftcovers are damaged badly but we'll see when we start working on it.

Meanwhile I've got some more pictures of picking the new valver up. It's drving around town happily at the moment. Only bad thing is the ticking engine but further there's nothing to complain about
