16V spheres

Hi folks

I posted this as an update to my getting the phase 1 back on the road thread, but this is a very specific query which I need an answer to sharp-ish!

Cutting a long story short, one of the failure items on the MOT is front spheres - spoken to Citroen dealer local to me which suggests the correct part numbers for a Phase 1 16V are as follows:

Fronts - 96087641

Rears - 96087642

Can anyone confirm this based on records they have?

I'm also somewhat intrigued as I was sure spheres for the 16V are a problem to source - the dealer claims they are available from France, so is it only spheres for the Phase 2 that can't be obtained?

The prices for the above are a bit scary (£54+VAT each!) but if they're right then I'm tempted to order them anyway.

Anywhere worth trying for UK stock?

From all the data in my various Cit part catalogues i'm getting 2 part numbers for each as well as the ones you have, one is probably PH1 and and the other PH2.

Front: 96024568 / 96068903
Rear: 95666815 / 96068904

Both are available all over the place including GSF but under the numbers below.

Alternative part numbers are:

N45308C / NS234 and N45352C / NS235 respectively.

Can't help with which of them is which but i suspect that due to the constant updating of the catalogues they may well be supercessions.

In any case i belive the spheres stats you're looking for should be:

Front 400/55/1.65 & Rear 400/40/1.1

Cheers guys

As I've posted in the for sale section, the Citroen dealer up Luke's way having a clear out last year still had 2 brand new genuine spheres on the shelf, so I've had them both!

They were cheap enough to make it a no brainer - I'm sure the ones on the car are suitable for re-gassing so may try and get that done via Pleiades for future use

I am using Xantia 3 dot ones in frt and rear as they are easier to source
here and they work fine and last longer (3dot type).
It's not a must to use the exact type, try the Xantia but use non-hydractive ones.

I used 1.9GTI rear spheres on the front of mine, ride is a little stiffer than normal 16v fronts.
The 16v rears OTOH need to be originals, the ones GSF sold me were generic "well it fits a BX..." spheres and under some enthusiastic cornering reduced my rear 205/50x15 tyres to 200/50-x15. Lucky I had the windows up or I might have fallen out.

Cheers folks

The genuine front spheres I ordered on Friday were delivered Saturday morning, and on the car Saturday afternoon :D My Dad found them pretty straightforward to change using a webbing oil filter removing tool.
