I've been thinking for a while, if I can't find a set of quad headlights for my car, can I buy a set from abroad and convert them to RH drive arrangement.

Looking at the following Morette documentation (as taken from the download section on the website) I can't see why I cant.

Would just need to buy the main light (Item 15) which you can get alternatives for, IIRC Timmo bought a Volvo light :?:

What do you reckon :?:

I do believe it is possible, i had a set of quads years ago which a forum member sold me for about a tenner. They then got destroyed when i lent them to my college to use in a theatre production of grease to place on a prop (they forgot they were mine and threw them in the bin at the end of the production  )

Each light was replacable from what i remember and could be fitted with the correct ones. I was going to go for BMW 3 series ones, although i hadnt had the chance to check the mounting brackets, but the diameters were the same so they could be made to fit with some simple brackets and for alot less if you can buy just the surrounds without the lenses.

My set werent actually morettes, they were from some other company but were very very similar but actually looked nicer because the lenses were sunk into the housings further and didnt have the top eyelid like the morrettes have, which i dont like. Apparently they came off a swedish rally car, gutted they got thrown away.

Mike, according to my folder of receipts, one lamp Optic cost me £25.80
iirc it was the main and sidelight unit, but cant be sure, am almost certain it was a lucus unit though and the part number on it is 082371 (came from my local Lucus style shop auto sparky place)
they are a very common unit or atleast were loL! and iirc the same as many of the twin lamp run cars like the 3 series bimmers and some old volvo's, may even be some of the Jag's?? if i had it to hand i'd measure it for you but sadly its elsewhere!!
but essentially Yes it should be easily changable, as its just the optics from what i know that are different, otherwise, just turn them upside down in the pods!

You can use MK3 Capri units also, when I had my set of quads the light units were the same as the ones on our Capri, 5 1/4 inch IIRC.

Hi Mike
Yes you can use the overseas units without any bother because when I bought my Morettes new the relay for the spts was fitted to the drivers side unit and had to be swapped over to the passenger side unit because of the length of th ewiring nad both units had the mounting bolt hole hole for the relay so it looked to me like the actaul casings are universal.

Cheers
Luke

Just started to look for a pair, but not holding out much hope.

I've rung Cituning this week, who are going to speak to Morette and see if any are available.

But I wont hold my breath :(

A 'jar of elbow grease' is probably my favourite, especially when working on cars etc most young kids seem to fall for it.
