Same as a few cars of the period the engines exceeded the capabilities of the car the astra gte and the escort rs turbo , having drove a rs turbo back to back with my first valver there wasn't anyway you would pick one of these over a bx , for me the only serious competition was either the pug 205 gti or 309 gti , the 309 being a nice car but without the 16v power no contest in my book , yes the a 16v astra , golf or even a jetta would have been a nice alternative to the bx but I have always liked the underdog which is why I used to love the bx so much , back in the day I used to swap and change my cars quite often but always ended up getting another valver , picking it over some very nice cars at the time , BMW 528i , BMW 323i , Renault 25 v6 turbo and a Granada Scorpio 4x4 all with the exception of the Granada being very nice drives especially the 5 series with the manual gearbox & LSD , Citroën everytime for me , Mark

Im still here, and the bx is going to be sorted although not yet. Its not for sale and i think ill see it through restoration in the next year. Having owning an escort rs turbo (fairly modified) i think the bx 16v unless on tb,s will struggle, in the rs turbos defence they are not as slow/bad as people say, its all down to maintinance/modification. and the cvh engine is a good unit

An RS turbo needs to be modified right from the get go to keep up with a std valver. The RS weighs just as much as a 16v and has a fair chunk of power and torque less!

For straight out of the box use the 16v would win everytime!

Me silver BX went to Ireland, I though Northern but it's never been registered so I have no idea if it still out there.

It's SORN Not Due on the DVLA website, but I did that to avoid the fine, so I guess it's included in those numbers although it may not be out there.

My red one, which got scraped is"unlicensed"

Still a sad sight, hopefully the numbers will plateau soon and the good cars that are left will be taken care of.

Here's another interesting one.

The scary thing is between 1999 and 2001 the numbers went down by over 1000!

Mind you by some BX standards its quite common!

Did they actually go down that much all in one go, or did the DVLA just catch up on there record keeping?

Possible.

Although the cars were starting to get old (12 to 14 years for a 1987 car) at that time, in the hands of 3rd and 4th owners and were cheap cars by then.

25 LEFT on the road?!

Blimey.

At least I've done my bit over the past 10 years - the two I've had are both still going strong - my white J plater has just found a new home in North London, and I've spent half the afternoon underneath DougalDog's old Triton Green one (o/s/r ABS sensor gone).

It'll be 24 at the end of October as my tax runs out on BAH and I'll stow it in the garage for winter this time. Seen too much rot on other cars to risk it - prevention over cure every time
