Hi Chaps,

if I wanted a new set of plugs for the valver, what would you recommend?

Bosch Super 4's are very good, bit pricey but very good or just go with NGK BCP7ET's.

Yep! definitely struggle to beat the BCP 7ET's, Gary uses them in Bertie.

I run splitfire triple platinums but only because I got vanny to procure me some at the US price of about four dollars each instead of UK 12 pounds

I use NGKs.

Make sure you get the triple electrode and not the single, my local motor factor has made that mistake twice on me know

yup the NGK's every time for me, ebay can get them at a good price too! the T on the end signifies the Triple electrode bit S for Single, but as said, make sure they are the 7ET, can run 6ET too but slightly lower heat rating on the plug,
when i had a cheap slowly dieing coil, i used to go through a set of plugs a month lol! would get a build up on them and never run right after a few good canings! but since fitting the Decent coil, cleaning All the earths etc. has been on the same set of plugs!
used to be about £12 a set at trade, havent checked in a while but often ebay is a good bet for older style plugs!

The number of electrodes doesn't change the way the car runs, seeing as a spark only jumps to the closest one first. It just means the plugs last longer, as once one electrode opens it's gap too far the spark will automatically jump to the next closest, so no need to be regapping or changing plugs at 10k miles. The fact is most do still change them, so if you do you may as well get standard ones.

I've got Denso IK22's in mine (I think....might be IK20 in fact). They're normally about £12 each but I paid half that I think, it was in 2004 though! They've done 25k miles or so and I'm told are good for another 20k as they're Iridium. Runs happily enough too, they might be cheaper on eBay now.

Kitch, are they the standard Denso plugs or the Platinum/Iridium race plugs?

mine wouldnt run properly on single elecrode bosh plugs when i tried it, (motor factors insisted they were the correct plugs) strange,
not tried the Decent single jobbies though, might try them when i fanally get round to getting back on the road!!!

Mine was like Tim's, wouldn't run on single electrode.

Don't know if they're classed as race, but they're Iridium single point plugs.

Think they were IK22. Those or IK20 for sure. Got the reciept somewhere. Staff discount saw them in for £24 all told I think, so quite a bit cheaper. It did even out the running a bit though, they give a strong spark.

Probably the wrong plugs. The gap is the only thing that really affects the operation, other than the core. Everything is more about how long it lasts and whether it'll melt or not

Lots of parts catalogues have duff XU9J4 info in, probably around 40% of the ones I've used. The one in front of me says the use the same HT leads as a 405 SRI. Go figure!

used to use them all the time as a few of my school mates worked there, and when i had the mini i was in everyother day for something or other lol! but lately the prices have gone up and up, just give up and cant be bothered with bartering with them to get a decent price lol!
