The return of Bertie

Post by Gary C »

Bertie B*ll*X as he is affectionately known is to return to the race track! 8)

He is entered at Brands Hatch for a Tin Top race on the Grand Prix circuit in a couple of weeks time. Not sure how well he'll run as he has not participated in any motorsport event for over 5 years.

Few niggles to sort out plus a seat and harness to buy and fit but hopefully all will be ok.

A week to go. Bertie is scrubbing up quite well. New seat etc is fitted and all is generally ok.

Don't know what else is racing. If there is something I can have a dice with I'll be happy enough. However many cars start we'll be at the back lurking and waiting to pounce. Believe most of the other cars will be lightweight slick shod motors!

Well we made it through both races. 8)

Qualified 42nd - out of 43. Only a Rover Tomcat behind us.

Bit of fettling and a good chunk off the best lap time saw us 31st at the flag which is also where we finished in the second race.

As for Pugs - 3 of them out there. A 400+ bhp supercharged 306 and a 240bhp? Xsara engined (that'll wind them up) 205 were in the slick shod Quaife modifieds and both ran up the pointy end. A 306 ran in the same road class as Bertie and finished ahead in the first race but was beaten in the 2nd courtesy of a non finish.

Martin Evans brought his phase 2 down from Hertfordshire to keep Bertie company in the paddock and Chris White also appeared even though he has gone over to the dark side and runs a VW.

Thanks for that.

Fastandfocus.com - galleries - number 207 whole set of pics from race 1 and 2 with Bertie popping up in a fair few.

On youtube - Brands Hatch MSVR weekend - cosmicspanner - race 1 about 12 mins in Ash laps us in his mighty supercharged 306 - we are in shot for about 45 seconds as he has front and rear cameras.

and cos300 has footage - race 1 about 8.15 in for 20 secs and race 2 9.30 in for about 30 secs.

Thanks Mike. I'll learn how to do that myself one day!

Looking to enter another race at Brands in November - this time on the Indy circuit against other road modified cars.

Got a few things to sort out though. Nothing major. Must replace the brake pads, although considering their age they did well, and a green juice transfusion is another requirement. And an oil leak needs a look at.

The trailer needs a bit of work on the lights as no doubt I'll need to tow in the dark next time out.

Have been informed that the Brands race meeting went out on Motors TV last night - Full Speed Racing episode 9.

Don't get Motors TV so know idea if Bertie is a TV star!

Saw the telly prog. Not a glimpse of a BX. C'est la vie.

On a more upbeat note, Bertie is entered for a Tin Tops race at Brands Hatch next month. It is on the shorter Indy circuit this time and unless anything changes it will be road treaded tyres for all this time.

Paperwork arrived today. Not good news as we've been lumped in with the slick shod modified lot again - probably best part of ten second difference per lap to the front runners.

Fresh pads fitted all round along with new green life juice and some tweaking of the fuel system. It should help us a bit, but it is not ten seconds worth!
