Noisy timing belt cover
Noisy timing belt cover
When engine is cold, timing belt cover is very noisy. It sounds like a drum, when you knock it with fingers. Timing belt or camshaft sprocket rubs to cover and the sound is amplified by the cover. Rubbing stops after a while. Cover makes engine sound ugly. Should there be any dampening material somewhere or rubber between cover half's. How to fix it.
I opened the cover and checked both timing and tension. Timing was a little bit off, RH tensioner was too tight and LH a little bit loose. When I started the engine, the sound seems to be disappeared. Maybe it was caused by too loose belt.
Unfortunately I also tried to fix leaking cam cover, which was leaking to spark plug well. Now it is leaking to exhaust, damn. I also find broken steering rack rubber boot (renewed about a year ago) and broken security valve pressure switch. Never ending story...
