Brake Lights

Post by Tim2cv »

Ok, the mot man said the brake lamps dont work and I agress...
On a BX which is the brake lamp? The inner most bottom light? my guess!

I cant find out why! There is 12v at the switch with the ignition on and none with it off.. as expected. I have jammed an old rounders bat in between the seat and the pedal for my testing and have realised the LHS cluster feeds the right. I have dissconnected the RHS cluster as If I ca get a light on the left I can on the right. I have checked fuses etc and all seem ok.
I have tried new bulbs and nothing, The connections are good and the earth is fine. If i remove the bulb and check with multimeter with the ignition off, nothing, ignition on (bat pressing pedal) and 12v ish from the holder but no light if a bulb is placed in the way. Is this right? Confused by this and every other electrical fault I have had!

Good job its only 12v!

Try another bulb, perhaps the contacts are worn.
have you tested the bulb across the battery?

If it is a 2 filament bulb, check it is the right way round.
(perhaps the brake filament shares a bulb with the tail light.)

hope this helps,
Mike
