Not a Citroen, but look whats happened

Post by Jezziebx16v »

Whilst parked out side the kids school, some kind chap reversed his Toyota Previa with tow bar into our Capri.

After he had reversed into it he dragged it foward several foot before driving off up the road, hotly in pursuit by my wife on foot 8) . She cought up with him and had a few choice words with him to which he replyed " oh it was to low and close i could not see it" and then he promptly drove off.
Anyways we reported him and have three witnesses to it all and we now have his details for the insurance company so things will now move forward i guess :?: . Just have to see what the report is after it has been looked at by the insurance peeps as to weather it gets writen off or repaired  .

That sucks mate :!:
Is there any chance you can do the guy for leaving the scene of an accident without eporting it or something similar - might teach him a lesson?

Hope the insurers are sensible about it and don't just try to scrap it.

Cheers

Yeah the Police are looking into it so hopefully he will get done for leaving the scene, as for the insurers i dont know it needs a new bumper and the slam panel has been bent so that needs sorting plus the bonnet now is not flush with the top of the wings. I presume the insurers won't fix parts they will replace so it may well get written off in which case we will buy it back and get it sorted ourselve's.
Just have to wait and see, tis a bit gutting though.

I'll echo Luke's comments - takes the proverbial when people think they can just drive off just because it's an 'old car' and assuming nobody will care - same thing happened to my Mk2 Cortina years ago...

Hope you get it sorted dude

as a rule i'm not a fan of Fords, but the Capri is as iconic as an E-type jag for me and certainly a classic. I just hope you can get the insurance company to see my way of thinking and have a full like for like repair paid for!

From similar happening to afriend of mine i can only advise that you remain adamant that it must be completely fixed to perfection on the grounds that its a pride and joy car!

My parents AX was also recently broken into, insured with Frizzel, and it required some £450 of repairs (that i could have done in 20 minutes AND had the parts in stock hod my dad told me!) and thats on a totally battered 1.5d N-reg, they managed to get it fixed under the insurance though initally they where told it would be an insurance write off

Thanks chaps,
Well one way or another it will get sorted 8) I'm not sure of the percentage's that insurers will pay out and TBO i am not really sure what the car is worth although its worth alot more than what we payed for it. So if it gets repaired all well and good but if they do decide to write it off we WILL buy it back and get it fixed up either way it had a bit of rust on the front valence and wings around the head lights so it could be a blessing in disguise  ( i've not said that to the wife  ).

Tony- she was out the car at the time so at least the numpty cannot wriggle out of the blame.....but no claim for whiplash either :( .

Fingers crossed it'll end up better than before the accident then!

Years ago I had a rover 214, and the handbrake on a Vectra failed which caused it to roll out of it's driveway and hit me. The damage was a smashed headlight, dented wing and a slightly bent bonnet. Insurance co wrote it off and paid out what I had bought the car for (about £600 I think) plus any work I had done on it in that time. Because I'd done a few major jobs (head gasket, rad and a few other things) they paid out around a grand for it, and let me keep the car. So we put a new wing on it (unpainted in black), got a second hand headlight on it and sold it for £300. Turned out to be a right little earner!!

:D Wife now has an 06 Corsa to run around in  and the assessor has been today. He did not say much really, just said he would do a report and research the price's of parts and cars.

Oh well things are moving in the right direction now and it looks like the driver of the other car is going to get prosocuted aswell  8) .

:( well the update is...... it's been writen off what with the price of parts and it being an old car and there being likely to be under lying rust at the front.

Bit gutted really but we get to keep the car and £1200 so its not all bad i spose :? .
So a new bumper and abit of work will get her sorted....... anyone fancy a Capri :P

The 1200 quid will come in handy though! doesn't look too big a job at a glance, difficulty is finding straight bumpers for capris, we did one up once, had three car sets to play with and not a single one was straight despite all looking good on the donors!
underlying panel rot ios possible but it hardly a complicated panel to repair, are you going to do it, or is it for sale? a friend has allways wanted a capri and I've just condemed her 306!

We have sorta found a bumper and TBO the front panel is just a pull out job really so it wont take much.
Will tidy it up before sale as the wife has lost interest now which is understandable so yes it will be for sale in the future.
